A Salute to Veterans - Thanks for your service!

Veterans Mass on Wednesday, Nov 13th

Our 5th graders wrote personal letters of gratitude to veterans or service personnel in active duty as part of the English Language Arts study. All veterans and active military are welcome to join the 5th graders at the Family Mass on Wednesday, Nov. 13th at Noon in the Main Church. We would be honored to have you join us. There will be a small reception following the liturgy in the Community Room.

Mountain Bike Team

Congratulations to 8th graders Jack and Matt French, Will Barth, and Ethan Marks who took home third place for Highland Catholic School in the St.Paul Composite Middle School Mountain Bike team last Saturday in Mankato. Jack, Matt, Will Barth and Ethan Marks are on the team from HiC. Lucas Esten (7th grade) is also on the mountain bike team! Minnesota has the second largest mountain biking league in the country, so this is a huge achievement! We are super proud of these boys.

If your 6-8th grade child is interested in joining this great outdoor sport team next season, please let us know and we will connect you with the information you need! We'd love to add some younger students and girls to our team.

Christmas Shoe Box Project

Dear Highland Catholic Families,

It’s shoebox time again! In the spirit of the holiday season, we are writing to ask all of our families to support the Highland Catholic Boy Scouts by packing shoe boxes with gifts and notes for boys and girls throughout the world as part of Operation Christmas Child. This is a wonderful program that has shipped more than 100 million shoe boxes filled with gifts, school supplies, hygiene items, personal notes, and family photos to children in need across the globe. For many children, it will be the first gift they have ever received. Please also consider praying for the child that will receive your box. We want them to remember that they have not been forgotten, that we are thinking about them, and that Jesus loves them no matter the challenges in their lives.

In your Thursday folders, you will find a brochure about Operation Christmas Child with clear instructions on what can and cannot be included in your shoe box. To cover the cost of shipping, you should put a check for $9.00 in the box made out to Samaritans Purse (not HI-C) with OCC in the memo line. Alternatively, you can pay online at samaritanspurse.org and you will be emailed a special Follow-Your-Box label to print and put on your box, which will allow your family to receive a notification about the destination of your shoebox gift. This year, Highland Catholic encourages the online method of obtaining a label so we can track where our shoeboxes end up. We will have a map on display at school to see which countries our boxes have traveled to. Also, please cut out from the brochure the appropriate boy/girl label and mark the age category of your gifts and tape the label to the top of your box. If printing an online label, you will be able to include these categories on that label as well.

You can use an empty cardboard shoebox or plastic shoebox of average size. A limited supply of OCC shoe boxes will be available at the school office sometime next week through collection week if you do not have one. Wrapping is not required but if you want to wrap the box please wrap the bottom and lid separately to allow security checks and to be able to access your $9.00 check. Again, we would recommend paying your $9.00 donation for shipping online and print out a follow your box label. Please use a rubber band to secure the top to the box.

We will collect the boxes at school during the week of November 18th-22nd. Simply send your box to school with your child that week and the Boys Scouts will collect them or you may stop by the office and they will direct you where to put them. Every child who brings in a filled shoe box will receive a ticket for a gift raffle at the end of collection week. Stop by the office to get your raffle ticket. On November 23rd, the Boy Scouts will deliver the shoe boxes and give them a heartfelt send-off at a local drop site.

Additional information will be passed on to the students in their classrooms to highlight how to participate in the program and how the good news is being spread to all corners of the globe through this simple gift. If you would like to explore the program further at home or to get ideas on how to pack an appropriate shoebox, visit www.samaritanspurse.org and click on Operation Christmas Child.

So please dig those shoe boxes out of your closet and help share the good news and great joy of God's love with children worldwide. We hope this project will be a fun and easy way to get into the Christmas spirit of giving, peace, and joy. We are excited to see all the shoe boxes pass through the doors. Thank you for honoring God's precious gifts, kids.
