February
Cisco Systems, Inc. - February 20, 2014
Our February session was at Cisco Systems, Inc. What an amazing business to have here in Gwinnett County. I enjoyed hearing from the program manager and engineering director as they shared the mission of their company, the impact they have on the community, and some of the products they have invented. The partnership between Cisco and Gwinnett County Schools opens up doors for students to get hands on experiences in the field of science, technology, and math. Cisco is a huge supporter of the STEM work that is being done across the county. In the future, I would love to have some of the leaders at Cisco visit our students and possibly have students and teachers get to visit Cisco. As we talked about in the January session, this could be a small step or great experience to help shape attitudes and support the vision our leadership has for STEM work in our school.
Dr. Rutherford continued the themes of quality teaching through the module Facilitating Learning II. We were all excited to get a copy of the newest edition of his book The Artisan Teacher: A Field Guide to Skillful Teaching. We closed out the day by writing songs that summarized the themes. This was another great day of learning.
