Updates

Google Workspace from IT

The District's free Google Workspace for Education accounts will no longer support unlimited storage. Instead, the District will be allocated a shared 100 Terabyte storage pool for all users. This change is being driven by Google, which is eliminating the unlimited free storage.

In preparation for the reduced storage capacity, the IT department has been working with Google Drive power users to help reduce the volume of their stored data. The team also is assisting, as needed, with migrating data to other storage options.

As a result, the creation of shared drives has been limited by Google and they have implemented a 100 Gigabyte limit on shared drives in Google.

Website

We are in the process of selecting a new web hosting service for district and school websites. A sprint team committee is engaging in a series of meetings to review and select vendors for piloting. All community stakeholders may provide input into our process through the VistaUSD District Website Feedback form. Check out our selection and process timeline here.

Gradebook Reminders for Secondary Teachers

If you plan to sync your grades between Canvas and Aeries, remember that gradebooks in Aeries SHOULD NOT be linked to each other. Linking the gradebooks in Aeries can cause syncing issues for cross-listed classes. It is best to complete all of your grading via Canvas and then sync to Aeries, rather than doing grading in both locations. If you have an assignment that is completed on paper in class, it can still be added to the Canvas gradebook by creating a “no submission” or placeholder assignment.

Please watch this video that explains how to create placeholder or no submission assignments on Canvas.
