October Newsletter

Just a reminder that parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 1-8 pm. I will be in and out of both the elementary and middle school on that day. I hope to have the chance to meet you then, but as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call.

The 6th grade students have been learning Signed Exact English (a sign system which is intended to help its users develop English language structures) and will be finishing this unit next week. This has been fun and challenging and the students are proud to show off what they have learned. On Wednesday, October 21, we will be visiting Southwest Elementary to sign/read a children's book of their choice to a couple of preschool and kindergarten classes, as well as teaching them the signs for the basic colors.

During the 2nd quarter of school, students will complete an independent study on a famous person of their choice. This is an opportunity to personalize their learning experience and challenge them by emphasizing the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy and creating projects that displays their understanding and ideas about the topic.
