Fifth Grade News
Welcome to the Kindness Cafe
No School
There is no school on Thursday, October 31st or Friday, November 1st this week!
Field Trip
On Thursday of next week, we will be going to Feed My Starving Children in the afternoon. This is a part of our service learning project this year! The kids are so excited about this opportunity! We will eat lunch early, around 11:00 and leave school at 11:30. Hot lunch will still be available.
Reading
In reading, we talked about finding main ideas within our complex texts! We also looked at how to find multiple main ideas in a part of a text!
Writing
This week in writing, we continued taking notes on our topics, and started organizing our ideas!
Math
This week we continued dividing by multi-digit divisors. We learned and practiced multiple ways to show our division.
Family Reading Night
This year the 4th and 5th grade students will be planning Family Reading Night for all of Goodrich School. It will take place the evening of November 21st. There is a flyer in your child's Friday Folder with information about this event.
Young Authors
Woodridge District 68 hosts a Young Authors District Conference each year. This conference is a celebration of the exceptional writing talent of students across the district. Two students from each classroom are selected to attend the district event. One student from each building is chosen to attend the state Young Authors’ Conference. Stories are due to the teachers NO LATER than Monday, November 18th. There will be very little class time to work on these stories, so students are expected to work on these at home.
A Note from Ms. Jacobs
Goodrich students are creating a mosaic tile mural to brighten up the hallway, and we need your help. We are asking for ceramic tile donations. If you have leftover ceramic tiles from any home projects (backsplashes, floor or bathroom tiles) that you are willing to donate to the school, please drop them off in the office or right outside the art room labeled "art tiles". The only colors we are in need of are blue, green, pink, black, purple, or orange. If you have tiles of these colors, we ask that you please get them to Goodrich before 11/15. We do not need any other colors donated at this time. If you have any questions please email Ms. Jacobs. Thank you!
