Happy February! We are in the thick of Quarter 3 and have seen many great things happen since returning for the new year. Our students are working hard and showing STRIKE(ing) behavior each and every day while also focusing on being engaged in their learning.

This February, we will be taking a close look at what it means to be "engaged" in learning. Take some time to talk to your child(ren) about how they can show they are engaged in their lessons. Some examples of engagement are listening attentively, asking questions, actively participating in activities, taking notes, and more. I know that with your support, we will be able to ensure that every Sidewinder is engaged in their lessons.

In addition, February is Black History Month! We are excited to celebrate and honor Black History by learning about famous African Americans such as Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey, Kobe Bryant, and more! Our teachers are preparing lessons to engage your children in learning throughout this important month.

Finally, I want to highlight the success of our amazing Parent Teacher Association. Our PTA works tirelessly to prepare and hold engaging family events and make learning special for our Sidewinder Students. This month alone, they are preparing for a Valentine's Family Dance, putting together the Fundraising Run for March, and working to support the school in a Library Refresh. I encourage you to take some time to thank a PTA member for all of their hard work.

Thank you for everything you do and being a part of the Greenbrier Community. We have accomplished many great things and have many more to come.

Student Council Candygrams - Student Council is selling candy grams for $0.50 each from February 1st - 10th which will be delivered to others on campus on or before February 14th.

Valentine's Day Parties - Teachers will be reaching out to share information regarding Valentine's Day Parties. Please note, any treats brought in should be for the entire class and store bought. Please be aware of any allergies/dietary restrictions in your child(ren)'s classroom.

Parent Teacher Conferences - Teachers are sending out information to sign up for PT Conferences the week of February 13th. February 16 and 17 are 12pm dismissal days due to PT Conferences.

Scholastic Book Fair - The Scholastic Book Fair will run from February 13 - 17 with a late night, open until 6:45pm, on February 16th. We hope to see you there!

Flagpole Ceremony - We will have our final Flagpole Ceremony of the school year on Tuesday, February 21 at 8:40am to honor President's Day.

President's Day - There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 20th due to President's Day.

Library Refresh - We are in the midst of refreshing our library! We are excited to be purchasing new books for the 23-24 school year as well as working with the PTA to raise funds to refresh the furniture. Community Food Bank - If you or a school family you know needs support, the Food Bank at Constitution Elementary is now open and supporting DVUSD families. The hours are Wednesday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:00pm and is open on Thursdays until 6:00pm.
