Sunset Feeder Excellence

October 12th-16th, 2015

School Visits

As I visit, we will collaborate regarding evidence of your efforts to provide spot feedback to assistant principals, polishes in classrooms, student achievement in every content area, etc. You should be knowledgeable of your AP and CIC supports to teachers and we will review your polishes to look for evidence in classrooms. Upcoming professional development should have processes for teacher input via surveys aligned to your campus action plan needs and/or teacher Professional Development Plans. Additionally, they should provide feedback on the sessions. Please develop collective commitments to evidence you will look for immediately following professional development.

Please be sure to send me your PD agenda by Friday. Additionally, email me with at least 1 or 2 refinements you are making to improve your parent conferences. Please ensure teachers are supported by an administrator and parents have the opportunity to provide two-way communication (i.e. communication station, feedback sheet, mutually scheduled meetings, standard student profile sharing/portfolios, etc.).

Reminders of Best-Practices/Requirements

Review pertinent district policies and define campus processes...
  • Field Trips- ensure student groups receive equitable field trips to minimize the loss of instruction (calendar for the year), NO DEADLINES this year, we have guidelines of recommended timelines for submission only
  • TItle One Documentation
  • SBDM leadership committee agenda (send to Susie)
  • PTA meetings (send to Susie)
  • Weekly Newsletter (send to Susie)
  • Asset Removal- I will approve with the assumption that the item is not needed and/or the principal has budgeted for replacement using campus funds
  • See WAIP regarding Fair Labor Laws and Regulations- overtime, compensatory time, there are no additional funds for overtime and occurrences should be rare to allow for the labor regulation protection
  • All Financial Oracle Requests should include campus action plan areas and must have been budgeted already for the year
  • All Professional Development requests should be approved in advance and include campus action plan areas
  • Campus Action plan- we should always have your most current plan

Week Eight

Reading/Writing October 21st Data/Principal Meeting- The district will provide a template, but as we do in every visit, you should be prepared to speak to your data in advance. I know you already do this, but you should be aware of the progress of every content area beyond the standard reports to lead progress monitoring in the core content areas (i.e. common assessments, DOL data tracking, small group instruction, tutorials, etc.). Feel free to call me. I would ensure that you have adequate data in district expectations too (ISIP, Reasoning Minds, etc.). You don’t want to be surprised by blank data, incomplete data, etc.

Please send me your completed data template by Friday afternoon for review.

Assistant Principal Rubric-

Per your request, we are having a repeat meeting with Assistant Principals this Wednesday at 3:30- Winnetka Elementary School to highlight and provide sense-making with the implementation of the assistant principal rubric. If any of your AP's did not attend the first session, please make arrangements to have them attend this week. I will need the principal to assist with sense-making during this overview.

Classroom Visits

Please be prepared to have all academic leaders (APs/CICs) be able to discuss alignment of instruction with assessment. Additionally, all polishes received should be evident in the classroom. As we visit, I will ask for the last polish (or will have a copy from my last visit) and we will conduct spots to look for evidence of implementation. All new teachers should be receiving support with a sense of urgency.

Assistant Principal Rubric- Please reference the AP rubric during each of your calibrations and meetings with AP's.

  • Erica Rosas (Division One Sunset/Carter Administrative Assistant- also assists with parent phone calls/concerns from the campus, field trips, fundraisers, etc.)

TEI Calibration for New Supervisors (Principals and AP's that were not a supervisor last year)

Please review the district's TEI DNA regulation and local policy. You should remind your assistant principals of the mandated requirements and timelines (each AP should have a plan to present to you to ensure their teachers are supported in meeting deadlines and provided professional development.

Please note that you must provide and document training and supports for new teachers through out the school year within 15 days (see policy/regulation above)

Special Programs

When we visit, please be prepared to discuss your evidence of support for special education, 504, dyslexia, bilingual and Gifted Programs. Remember district resources are available and MLEP has a calendar of trainings to support new teachers. All new teachers should receive training from you in each area through-out the school year. Your individualized student achievement/progress monitoring should embed all special education, ELL, 504 and Gifted students. General education teachers should be aware of how students in all programs are best supported. Feel free to ask for district support with specialized training.

You should contact MLEP if I notified you of a denial percentage higher than 5% to ensure a proactive support plan. Please ask your special education teacher for the reports of ARD's, please ensure you are aware and ensure compliance with annual ARD's, IEP's, accommodations, etc. You should ensure that all minutes and services are being met... Additionally, FLS programs should be reviewed to ensure the least restrictive environment, please feel free to contact special education compliance for support/guidance.

*Reminder, a 5-Day ARD notice to sending and receiving administrators is required. If you do not receive a notice from another district campus, please make me aware of the situation immediately.

LPAC 20 day deadline through-out the school year- please ensure sense-making with all staff.

SPOTS

Please remember to have TEI rubrics printed for each evaluator. Also, we ask the assistant principal who supervises the teacher to be present (AP's should have the AP rubric with them) and principals (principal rubric). Additionally, we will use the spot forms.

All supervisors should be able to access curriculum while in the classroom. Supervisors should be able to discuss how each standard is assessed at the particular grade level (state and ACP). I want to discuss how you are supervising AP and CIC feedback to teachers (also review Schoolnet entries using the Principal/AP rubric).

What is the minimum amount of classroom/teacher individual time you are spending each day? When are celebrations of achievement planned? How do you prioritize email and due dates? MLEP, Special Education, Special Programs

Please be prepared to explain to me your efforts to support special programs. I am interested in your New To Profession training for Dual Language structures. How will they know the campus model and what expectations are there by grade level? How will the language of instruction be monitored? Do all classrooms track reading in English/Spanish? How have you collaborated with MLEP to support your one way program? Two-Way? ESL? Newcomers?

Discipline Plans

Do you have a campus wide discipline plan or social contract? Grade level? Classroom? Do you approve the final copy that is shared with parents? How will you address parent concerns with discipline? How will you proactively share the expectations to ensure effective communication/partnership?

Celebrations- Kudos!

Please have your campus representative send Erica Rosas the campus celebrations by the end of day on Wednesday, October 13. Kudos to Rosemont students for competing and winning an invitation to a TED talk. Also, the High School has begun participating in Robotics competitions and welcomes middle schoolers to join them! Many of our elementary campuses also have new Robotics clubs!
