The G-Dub Hub
April 2019
From The Principal's Desk
Spring has sprung! I think we have finally turned a corner and have some nice weather on the way. Students and staff sure have been enjoying spending more time outside. We have just wrapped up our 12 weeks of SWITCH. You can still continue to help your child keep the habits that they have formed - less screen time, more exercise, and trying new foods. During April, students will be taking the third screening of the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test. This test is just one of the measures that teachers use to assess the growth in science, math, and reading. At the end of April, students will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). We will be spreading these tests out over a two week period. This test replaces the Iowa Assessments or you might remember them as Iowa Basic Skills. Students will take the ISASP on the chromebooks this year and there is now a writing portion on the test. We will wrap up in May by assessing students fluency and accuracy in reading using the Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST). This is an exciting time as we see such great transformation in students from fall to spring. Thank you for all you do to help us help your child in reaching their full potential.
Happy Spring!

We have been busy learning new things. In Math, we are learning how to multiply 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. Students are also being introduced to long division during Calendar Math. We have also starting working on fractions and equivalent fractions. In Reading, we just finished learning inferencing and generalizing, and now we are learning author’s point of view and author’s purpose. In Social Studies, students are putting their finishing touches on their state reports, and they will be ready to present soon! We are still enjoying receiving postcards and letters from around the United States. We have received hundreds from 33 different states. We have penpals in Florida, and are beginning to write letters to penpals in California. Students are enjoying Mrs. Beim’s Science classes, where they have been doing STEM activities. Happy Spring!
Congratulations K-Pride Classroom Winners - Mrs. Potratz 4th Graders and Mrs. Campbell 5th Graders
