News and Notes for Parents at Plymouth North

A time to wrap up and celebrate!

Now that the calendar has turned to May, we begin to turn our attention towards the long awaited events to celebrate North students and graduates that we've been working all year towards! May is an opportunity for students to reflect on, assess and give recognition for a year and a career of hard work.

From state assessments, AP exams, tournament games, rolling rallies, and senior celebrations... it's a jam-packed month full of events and momentous milestones! We look forward to your presence, assistance and support through it all in the next few weeks!

4. MCAS: Math Grade 10 & Biology Grade 9

We have 2 more rounds of MCAS testing for PN students before the end of the school year:

  • Math MCAS: For all Grade 10 Students on Tuesday, May 16th & Wednesday, May 17th
  • Biology MCAS: For all Grade 9 Students on Tuesday, June 6th & Wednesday, June 7th

Testing begins right at the start of school, and students will be assigned testing locations mostly by alphabet. Students can check the large signs at both entrances to determine their testing locations on either day, and can check with their Advisory teacher or classroom teachers who also have the lists prior to the testing day.

We encourage all students taking MCAS to get a good night's rest, get to school early and take advantage of our free breakfast offered to all students each morning to be fully prepared to do their very best on the test, which is a state graduation requirement.

5. Final Exam Schedule

Big picture
Final Exams are administered in all classes to students in grades 9-11 during the last week of school. The exams count as 10% of a student's overall course final grade, as well as serve as preparation for post-secondary expectations, and course and department-wide learning assessments.

Our student handbook is very strict on the limits for excusing students from taking exams at the time they are scheduled. Per the handbook, "Final exams will only be administered during the scheduled exam period. Make-up examinations are only afforded to students with excused absences and must be arranged with the subject teacher. The principal must excuse all absences during exams. Final exams are worth 10% of the overall grade."

Excused absences are required to be pre-approved by school administration, for handbook outlined purposes only and all exams are to be completed prior to the end of the last day of school at 11:05 on June 16th. We highly encourage full attendance for students on the last week of school.

The exam and bell schedule for the last week of school is above. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of exam week, we have half days and students are dismissed at 11:05 after both exam periods.

14. PNHS Sports Schedule

The PNHS Spring Sports season is well underway!

Eagle Nation is having an incredible start to the season. Last week, the first MIAA Spring Power Rankings were released, and PN was ranked in the top 32 qualifying teams for the state tournament based on their current performance IN EVERY SINGLE SPRING SPORT!

Aside from power rankings, our track teams just had an incredible showing at the D3 State Relays this past weekend: 7 different relay teams from PNHS medaled in their events! The Boys 4X400 of Nammour, Guiliani, Riley & Sten won 1st place in D3 by 5 full seconds and has the 5th best time in the entire state!

Make sure you get to these games and matches to root on our very successful Eagles!
