Parents who would like to refer their child for screening must provide permission for assessment and complete the on-line Parent Referral Form. As part of the new referral process, you will need to know the email address of your child’s current Language Arts and Math teachers.
Referral Forms are available on-line at https://sbgifted.schoolmint.net. These forms must be completed by Monday, October 23, 2017.
Please note that no late referrals can be accepted due to timeline constraints.
Counselor's Connection
Meadow Wood Student Council News
Lynne Luberger, Counselor and Student Council Sponsor
The Student Council helps promote a sense of community and school spirit at Meadow Wood. In addition, the Council plans and assists in the implementation of school wide service projects and supports our character education initiatives.
Serving as a Student Council representative is an honor and a privilege. Student Council representatives have satisfactory grades, follow the Eagle SOAR expectations, and are seen as positive role models by others.
SC is comprised of 4th and 5th grade students. The 4th graders that served last year will continue as 5th grade representatives. In addition, each 4th and 5th grade homeroom will select two representatives from the homeroom class.
Student Council representatives are selected through a two-step process involving classmates and teachers. Student input is gathered by having each child complete a character traits rubric. The rubric reflects our new SOAR expectations. (SOAR: Safety, Ownership, Attitude and Respect)
The rubric allows students to identify the people they believe follow the guidelines most of the time. Teachers then review the responses from the class and determine which students’ names appear most frequently. From that list, the teachers make the final decision.
Be watching for more exciting news about the many ways that Student Council contributes to our school and community.
Box Top Drive
Fall Box Top Drive will take place Wednesday, October 11th and run through Wednesday October 25th. Please have students take turn in Box Tops to their teachers. Below is a collection sheet you can either glue or tape the BoxTops to this sheet or put them in a ziplock bag.

Hoops For Heart
1. Our basketball unit will begin the week of October 23rd
2. Parent letters explaining Hoops for Heart go home in Friday Folders October 27th
3. School wide assembly will be held October 30th. One for 3rd-5th and one for K-2. They will hear all about it and why these kiddos need our help and how they can help while making healthy choices.
4. As they raise money I get notified and will hand out the ‘Get it Now’ prizes each day in class.
5. The end of the fundraiser and the celebration dates are November 8th and 9th. This will happen during their Health Fitness time. I will have different stations set up, for example: free throw contest, bounce pass contest, agility course, hopefully a nurses station where they can listen to their heart and possibly get their blood pressure taken, also a healthy snack table (I would need help with this part so I’m still looking into it).
If our goal of $2,500 is met Mrs. Barry and Mrs. Haynes will have an activity to do. We are thinking roller skating around the school for a day or something fun along those lines.Storybook Pumpkin Patch
Our Storybook Pumpkin Patch will be ready next week. Please drop participating pumpkins off between Tuesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 26. All pumpkins must be picked up by the end of the day Friday, November 3.
