The Crissman Connection

April 29, 2022

Hi Crissman Families,

I hope you all are enjoying the week. I wanted to let you know that on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, Crissman will again be a polling location. The election will close the use of the gymnasium, stage, and lobby areas for Crissman from 6 am - 8 pm.

Crissman Elementary is a designated poling location for Shelby Township. Usually, students are not in school during regular elections days (August, November). Once in a while though, there is a need to conduct a special election. As this only affects schools in Shelby Township, school will be OPEN during the May 3rd election day. There are several things to change for this day to keep students safe while our main doors are open to voters.

All students will enter through Door 9 on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. No students will be entering through the main lobby doors on this day. Buses arrive at different times, so this should scatter the arrival of students entering through Door 9.

Students arriving after the 9:20am am start bell should enter through the Main Office doors and sign in with the main office. The Main Office doors are to the right of the lobby doors. Parents should escort late students to the office and sign them in on the yellow sheet in the vestibule.

Dismissal: Teachers will dismiss from their outside classroom doors, door 5 (back parking lot pick-up) and Door 9. Students will NOT be exiting through the main/lobby hallway.

Parent Pick Up: If you are picking up your child at the end of the day on Tuesday, please let them know where you will be meeting them. Parent pick-up can use door 9, typically used for AIM and lower elementary students, to exit on Tuesday. See Map below.

Breakfast: This will be served in the hallway, inside of Crissman, just past the double maroon doors that open to the lobby. Students will be eating their breakfast in their classroom, or just outside of their classroom instead of utilizing the gym. Breakfast products from UCS for May 3 are allergen safe. You can view the menu online at

Lunch: The Crissman menu for Tuesday, May 3rd will be pizza :).

Lunch will be eaten in classrooms. Lunch will be served from the hallway, much like breakfast, with classrooms being dismissed to come down one class at a time to get their lunch from the main hallway, then return to their classroom to eat.

Classrooms will have UCS provided wipes (safe for student use and around students (not Clorox/Lysol)) to wipe down desks/eating surfaces before and after eating.

IMPORTANT FOR TUESDAY LUNCH! As lunches will be eaten in classrooms, there cannot be any allergen items included in home packed lunches that day.

Food items to avoid:

Peanut Butter

Granola Bars

Any nuts (almonds, cashews, peanuts, etc)

Candy with any nuts (peanut butter cups, chocolate with almonds/nuts, etc)

Crackers containing any nuts

Cookies/baked goods

If you forget and your child has an allergen item in their lunch that day, they will be asked to eat away from the classroom, either in the hallway or in the media center as allergen students can pick up trace pieces of their allergen from desks, counters, tables, etc. We want to keep the classroom peanut/tree nut safe for our students.

Allergen safe lunch ideas:

nut-free crackers

Goldfish crackers

Wheat Thins

lunch meat

wraps/roll ups

cheese slices/string cheese

Rice Krispie treats

fruit snacks

Yogurt tubes

squeeze applesauce pouches

fruit leather snacks

**If there are classrooms with additional allergen concerns outside of peanut/tree nut, a separate note for that class will be sent to parents.

Please use your best judgement and ask questions about lunch items if you are unsure. This is only 1 day, so your child's favorite peanut butter sandwich can return for lunch on Wednesday, May 4, as lunch will return to the lunchroom.

Physical Education Classes: These will be held in classrooms, or outside if weather/conditions permit outside activity.

SACC--IMPORTANT INFORMATION: As the stage will be used by the election volunteers, SACC will relocate to the SCIENCE room for Tuesday, May 3rd. Parents can drop off/pick up their child from the SCIENCE Room outside door. You can park in the Crissman lot, walk along the play pad/building to reach the Science Room door. There will be signs to indicate entrance/exit.

If you have any questions/concerns with the movement of SACC, Breakfast, Lunch, Entry/Exit for May 3, please reach out to the Crissman Office at 586-797-4300 on Monday.

Yours Truly,

~Mrs. Papastamatis
