ACT Information and prep resources
ACT National Test Information
Test Dates (Registration Deadline)

Any student who would like to test on a National testing date will register online at http://actstudent.org Remember if you have taken it before you need your ACT ID (found on your test results to re-register).All students have access to a FREE ACT Prep Course in their Naviance account with full-length practice tests, flash cards. All Class of 2025 Juniors will be taking the ACT Test (free of charge) on Feb 27th at LHS. This will be a paper test, not online administration. Here are resources such as prep videos, webinars and practice tests for the ACT and the WorkKeys assessments.
National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) via FREE WorkKeys Assessment
All members of the Class of 2024 (Seniors) will sit for the WorkKeys online assessment free of charge on February 27th at LHS. The WorkKeys score can be used towards an Honors Diploma (NEW REQUIREMENTS) as well as earning students an NCRC. The NCRC is a portable, evidence-based credential earned to help our students share the essential foundational skills for workplace success. For the Class of 2023 47% of the class, 66 students earned their NCRC last year. You can learn more about the NCRC here.
February 27th our 10th grade students will be taking the ASVAB
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) not only reveals career information for our students, did you know it can also be used as a Student Strength Replacement for earning an Honors Diploma for scoring 50+!? Students will also have an ASVAB Interpretation session on March 13th. NEW Honors Diploma Criteria here.
Advanced Placement is coming!
Be sure to mark your calendars for January 18th at 6pm to learn more about the Advanced Placement program at LHS. Advanced Placement is considered the Golden Apple when it comes to rigor. Students spend the school year working their the LHS teachers to prepare for the AP subject tests in May. Students will need to complete their Agreement form for intended courses next year. Meet AP teachers and learn about 2024-2025 AP Course offerings. Check out our AP page to learn more in the meantime.
Financial Aid Workshop
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is being overhauled as a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act. Families of the Class of 2024, fear not, our friends in the Financial Aid office of OSUN are here to help! The FAFSA helps students get aid for college from the federal government, state of Ohio as well as their colleges. Additionally, a completed FAFSA is a step in several scholarships. All students planning to attend any college or trade school is highly encouraged to complete the FAFSA.
Please find a recorded FAFSA meeting on our page. And our friends from OSUN will be at LHS on January 24th at 6:30pm in the LHS library to assist students and their families with the goal of submitting their FAFSA that night!!
Ahead of the Jan 24th FAFSA work session each senior and their parent will need to create an FSA ID beforehand so they can electronically sign their FAFSA that night. This video will walk you through creating an FSA ID.
Graduation Plans and Readiness Indicators
School Counselors have been working with students on their Graduation Course Plans as well as their Student Readiness Indicators, both of which you can view in their Naviance account.
Active Parenting Workshop via Zoom
Please find attached a flyer with registration info for a Active Parenting Workshop that will occur on Thursdays in January sponsored by Pathways of Central Ohio. Happy families aren't born...they're made one day at a time.

- Use non-violent discipline techniques that work

- Teach responsibility and other important values
- Handle problems as they come up
- Cope with difficult topics such as drugs, violence, and sex

Committed Blood Donor Cord for Graduation
Did you know that by participating in one of the many American Red Cross Blood Drives sponsored by the LHS Student Council your student can earn a cord to wear at graduation? Additionally, ARC offers an annual scholarship to a Lakewood graduate for our annual efforts. Students can sign up to donate with Mrs. Baker in RM 109 or by emailing her @bbaker@lakewoodlocal.org We have blood drives scheduled at LHS on 1/18/24 and 3/8/24.
🎓 Attention- Parents of Seniors!! 🎓
If you plan to submit your own photo-Pictures and Senior quotes are due Jan. 30. There's a Google Form in Classroom for the quotes. Pictures should be emailed to jmaybury@lakewoodlocal.org with the student's first and last name and "senior picture" in the subject line :)
Have you ordered a cap and gown for graduation? Be advised ALL students planning to march in the graduation procession must have a royal blue cap and gown to wear. Counselors have a very limited number of donated ones if your student would like to borrow one for the day. Ask your counselor.
Here is the link if you still need to purchase a cap and gown from Jostens.

CTEC Day of Exploration
This is a reminder that C-TEC will be hosting our Day of Exploration on January 24th. 10th grade students and their parents/guardians have the opportunity to meet with lab instructors, tour the building, talk to school counselors, fill-out an application, etc.
Students will choose a time slot between 8:30 am - 7 pm, and the registration link is below:
CCP is coming!
We are having an annual meeting for all interested students and their parents on Th 1/18 at 6:30pm in the PAC for CCP. We will go over all the college partners and their admission qualifications and deadlines. All students and a parent MUST attend a meeting regarding the risks and benefits of enrolling in CCP prior to participation.
Intent to Participate Forms are due to the counseling office by T 4/2/2024 for next year. Students in CCP need to do this form each year they plan to participate in CCP. You can learn more about the CCP program on our CCP page.
