Setting: in a specific culture or society
The story Eleven is about and eleven year old girl named Rachel and it's her birthday. She is at school and her teacher is wondering who left their sweater in the classroom for this long. Someone said it was Rachel's but but it is not really hers. So the teacher does not care and gives it to her. At the end of class the real owners says it is hers. So she finally gets to take it off. Then the teacher acts like nothing happened.

The narrator of the book introduces himself as a hydrocephalic, which means that he was born with water in the brain. He is also a artist and hopes to use his words with people. The narrator's best friend Rowdy spends a lot of time with the narrator's family since his own is abusive. The two go on powwow together where Junior (one of the narrator's names) get roughed up a bit. One day at school Junior finds his mother name written in geometry text book.
