8th Grade Promotion is Next Week!
Dear 8th Grade Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we are focused on ensuring that all of you will finish strong and on a positive note. The link above includes the 8th Grade Letter sent last week. Please review carefully if you haven't already done so.
Below you will find information for some questions that have some up regarding promotion and the last days of school for 8th graders.
If you have additional questions, please email Ms. Conlon at estephany.conlon@sweetwaterschools.org or you may contact your counselors.
- YES. If you participated in serious, negative and unsafe behavior between now and promotion, administration will make the determination to not allow you to participate in the celebration and promotion.
Do I need to attend the promotion ceremony? Is it mandatory?
- NO. Families may choose to not participate in the ceremony. Please note, Hilltop Middle School will not be open to 8th graders to attend school on Wednesday June 1st due to the ceremony and teachers attending the ceremony to supervise.
When is the last day of school for 8th graders?
- Officially, the last day of school for all students is Friday June 3rd. BUT - the last day that students will be attending all their periods is this Friday May 27th - Periods 1 - 6 with dismissal at 12:55.
What do 8th graders do on Tuesday May 31st?
- You will come to school at 8:10, as usual, and report to period 1. Your teachers will give you more information about what to do for promotion practice and the 8th grade celebration taking place that day.
What do 8th graders do on Thursday and Friday June 2 - 3?
- Thursday June 2 is the promotion certificate pick-up. Students will come to Hilltop Middle School between 9am - 12pm to pick up promotion certificates. Distribution will take place in the cafeteria.
- Friday June 3 is book and device return make-up day. If you have any textbooks, library books, iPads, charging cords or charging bricks to return, items can be returned in the cafeteria between 9am - 12pm. You may also pay any outstanding library fines during this time. Cash only payments are accepted.
What if I don't pay all my unpaid balances in the library?
- The balances will transfer to your high school where it will remain until you pay it. Any unpaid debt will affect your ability to pick up your high school diploma after your graduation ceremony. You will not be able to receive your diploma if you have unpaid balances.
COVID Updates
As we see the door closing on the 2021-2022 school year, we can already see 2022-2023 on the horizon. COVID testing for athletic and extra curricular participation will continue. Your enrollment in the SDSU study will roll over to next year.
Students who register for the SDSU study can pick up kits after school on Tuesdays or Thursdays. These tests may be used if you or someone in your household are experiencing symptoms, if you are preparing for travel or a gathering and for your own peace of mind. Once you submit 8 results, you are eligible to pick up more.
