TJ Families:
I cannot believe it is March already. At this time last year, the world was very different then it is now. Even though things are not the same, Thomas Jefferson Elementary School continues to be a great place for children to learn and grow. The staff here at TJ are excited to teach your children each day and I hope that your child(ren) feel the same way.
If you are a veteran parent at TJ, you have probably been to one of our PTA breakfasts (Munchies with Moms or Daybreak with Dads). A tradition we started when I came here over 10 years ago is at the end of the breakfast, I ask all the students to go up to their parent and hug them. I miss those types of events and I'm sure you do too.
If you are like me, there are times when perhaps your mind gets a little overwhelmed with what has happened over the past year and as a result, I end up not always as “present” as I would like to be. So.... I am proposing that in March we take a moment each day to hug our child(ren) and hold on just a little longer than usual. No matter what the day brings, let us all try to hug our child every day. I only have one at home and she's 22, so we will see how that works out for me.
March can feel like a long month, but if we could find the time each day to hug our child and stay in the moment, my guess is it is also going to be a great month.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sasso

The 5Essentials Survey Closes Friday
Each school year, teachers, parents, and students have an opportunity to share their views and perceptions about their school by participating in the 5Essentials Survey. 5Essentials survey information is a valuable tool used by your school to identify priority areas for improvement. As a parent, the 5Essentials survey is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the school's effectiveness.
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, is anonymous and asks questions about five areas that are related to important student outcomes, including improved attendance and learning. The five areas focused on are:
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
The survey is managed by the University of Chicago and the school does not have access to your identity or survey responses. The 5Essentials Survey window opened on February 2, 2021 and closes at the end of the week on March 5. To take the survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/
