Third Grade Students Complete Service Projects for Locals Organizations!
Third-grade students at R.C. Waters Elementary School have been hard at work learning about the importance of giving back. Every month the students complete a service project for a local organization. A representative from that organization comes in to talk to the students about their organization and shares ways they can get involved.
In October, the third graders collected over 400 pairs of socks for our annual “Socktober” service project. The socks were donated to Mosaic Ministries of South Toledo. This shelter services many families with young children. In November and December, we partnered with Senior Resources of Ottawa County. Third-grade students made placemats and cards for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These placemats and cards were given to senior citizens who are unable to leave their home. In the month of January, we worked with the Ottawa County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Third-grade students made a big sign, cards and goody bags for their basketball team. Several students even made the trip to Port Clinton on January 24th to watch the game and cheer on the team.
We are looking forward to the rest of the school year and the service projects we have planned. This idea came after the loss of a wonderful teacher and friend, Whitney Meinke. The third-grade teachers wanted to do something to honor their friend and colleague and thought that giving back was a great way to honor and share the kindness that Mrs.Meinke always shared with everyone.
