Join us this fall as we cover the following topics in-depth:

Parent information session dates will be published the month prior and will be offered in-person and over Zoom. Sessions are open for all parents/guardians of HCS 9th-12th students.

Local Scholarship List

Local scholarships opportunities are published for students as they are received from businesses and organizations in the community. Check frequently as the list will continue to grow throughout the school year. Generally, local scholarship opportunities are limited to 12th grade students. Scholarships are also shared to students through their class Schoology.

Alabama College Application Week - October 16-20, 2023

During the week of October 16-20, 2023, many of the colleges in Alabama and some in surrounding states will offer free applications or fee waiver codes. The application waiver codes will be shared with students and parents at the start of Alabama College Application Week via Schoology and email.


College Application Week is part of the the Alabama College Application Campaign (ALCAC). The purpose is to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure each participating student has the opportunity to submit at least one college application.

University of Alabama - Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program

High School seniors interested in attending The University of Alabama are invited to an Alumni Scholarship Assistance Program session. Students are encouraged to attend this session as the scholarship application is now part of the admissions process.

U.S. Coast Guard - Genesis Invitational

The Genesis Invitations is an overnight program for students of color and first generation senior high school students. The program offers a comprehensive look at the cadet experience with special focus on making a seamless transition to college life.

Participants are asked to meet a few criteria before registering. If they meet the criteria listed below, please follow up right away and register. Space is limited!

  • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Taking pre-calculus or calculus in high school
  • Plan to enroll in college next fall
  • Height proportionate to weight and in good health.

Founded in 1876, the Coast Guard Academy is an accredited college educating talented young people to serve as commissioned officers in the U.S. Coast Guard. The Academy offers a total, integrated life experience available nowhere else and is ranked as one of the top undergraduate programs in the northeastern United States.

All transcript requests will be made through Scoir. See below for instructions!

Reminder, do not request your transcript until AFTER you have applied to the college.

ACT/SAT Test Dates

Sign-up now! Seniors might want to take the ACT/SAT again the fall of 12th grade year. Some colleges will continue to accept ACT scores after after student has been accepted (into the winter/early spring) in order to increase merit scholarship amounts.

Additional opportunities for parents to stay connected senior year:

  • Monthly Parent Outreach meetings on college specific topics (In-Person & Zoom)
  • Local Scholarship list - Updated regularly and posted on each school's Senior Schoology Group for students, posted on website.
  • Parent Q&A Zooms twice monthly (Drop-in with any college related questions)
  • College Counseling Newsletters with upcoming events and college news
  • Have your student "invite parent" in student Scoir app with parent's current email (College search/transcript request app - Scoir is located in each student's Clever)
