HOOT NEWS
TARDY SLIPS:
The office often gets questions about tardies from parents - let's make sure we are all on the same page. Our policy is that a student is tardy if they come in between 7:45-8:00. If you write a student a tardy slip, please put the time the student arrived. Or, feel free to send the student to the office to get a tardy slip. With no time stamp, it is very hard to explain to a parent how we know the student was tardy. We appreciate your help with this!
OFFICE STAFF CHANGES:
Johanna Aleman, our morning attendance clerk, has resigned. Thank you, Johanna, for your time here at Doss! We'll miss you and wish you all the best on your new adventure. In addition, Monique is looking to spend more time with her family and will be resigning effective at the end of the month. She'll still be around to help and volunteer. So, we are looking for a full time person for the substitute - Clerk III position. Know anyone who would be a good fit? Let me know and ask them to apply online.
While we work to find someone to fill this position. please be patient with our office staff and help them by being responsible and self-sufficient when it comes to subs and payroll. Regarding subs - we will be short handed until I can get someone hired. Please be sure to let me know if you will be out and secure your own subs. Friendly reminder - if you are going to be out, please put in Aesop AND Bolt. Also, note in the comment section your reason for taking off. This will help us categorize your absence and determine who is paying for your sub. Need a BOLT and/or AESOP tutorial? Here's are some links:

HANDBOOKS:
Our Parent/Student handbook has been updated with some minor changes. I will put a copy of the handbook in your box for you to keep in your classroom. Also, the handbook can be found on the PTA website should parents request a copy.
TEA SCHOOL REPORT CARDS:
I have put a copy of the TEA school report card in your box. Please review. This link to this report card will be posted on the PTA website, and I will also send it to parents in one of my Living Tree messages.
MOY ISIP TESTING:
The MOY ISIP testing will need to take place in January. The window opens on January 3rd and closes on January 31st. It is a requirement through the district (and now the state) that everyone participates, as this data will be used as a pre-screening for dyslexia. This means the MTSS team in AISD will be looking through this MOY data. Please let Leah know if you need support with testing.
POSITIVE PARENT COMMUNICATION CHALLENGE:
Thanks to all of the teachers who participated in the Positive Parent Communication Challenge! You did a great job! And, parents have been coming out of the woodwork to tell me how much they have appreciated randomly hearing from you. If you completed the challenge and documented it in CST prior to the break, please be sure to cash in on A half-day sub from me.
LIVING TREE PARENT COMMUNICATION:
Thank you to all the teachers that have already communicated with parents via Living Tree in this first week back!! Great job!! Remember, parents love hearing from you, knowing what to expect academically, and seeing pictures of the things their children are doing in class. Living Tree is a great tool for that "window" into the classroom. Last semester, we did the Positive Parent Communication Challenge. I hope to keep the good vibes going with lots of positive communication this semester. Again, Living Tree makes it easy. Living Tree is also a great way for your administrators to see and / or comment on your parent communication. Frequent and pro-active parent communication is a great way to build positive relationships with our parents. Let's keep it up!
DOSS CULTURAL HERITAGE WEEK
Cultural Heritage Week is February 26-March 2, with the exciting Cultural Heritage Festival Night set for Thursday, March 1, 6:00-8:00PM. We will ask for parent volunteers and communicate more details after the break.
For now, please note we will continue this rich tradition where students and parents get to share their cultures with each other in fun ways:
parent readers for your class
flag template to be colored by your students
cultural performances
exhibits, demos
desserts
If you have ideas/suggestions, please share them with Anne Jansson ajansson512@gmail.com or Sandra Ely garzaely@swbell.net.

Below is a link to the various Features and Supports that are allowable for STAAR this year. Refer to the Student Form for clarification on what committees determine the eligibility and if it is allowed for certain students.
