Union blockade of the Texas coast. The confederates entered Galveston on New Year's night, 1863, and opened fire before dawn.
Battle of Sabine Pass
September 8, 1863 a Union flotilla of four gunboats and seven troop transports steamed into Sabine Pass and up the Sabine River with the intention of reducing Fort Griffin and landing troops to begin occupying Texas.
