What's Hopping and Popping in Rm 2

Room 2 News

Our bike-a-thon was a huge success! We raised over $1700.00 to help our school. Thank you to all the families that contributed. The kids really enjoyed being a part of this activity as well.

Beauty and the Beast field trip

On Thursday we enjoyed going over to the Belton High School to see Beauty and the Beast. The children were very good audience members. I was very proud of how well they sat and were attentive during the show. I highly reccomend the show if you want to catch it this weekend.

Change of clothes

PLEASE make your child has one complete set of warm clothing in their cubbie. Two sets would be even better. We love to get messy and have fun and sometimes the children have accidents. If you have any clothing borrowed from Grace please wash and return. Thanks!

Integrity- November Pirate Principal

*A note from our librarian Ms. Kelly about our November Pirate Principal

Did you know that there are versions of the Cinderella story in every known cultural tradition?
Folktales are one of the primary ways that cultures share and preserve their values, drawing upon a rich oral tradition to impart shared beliefs while teaching through metaphor and parable. Most folktale motifs show up across many different cultures, indicating that certain values (or character traits), are universally admired or desirable. The Cinderella story is one motif that emphasizes the importance of hard work, humility, and personal integrity. We have more than a dozen different versions of Cinderella in our library: check out Adelita from Mexico, The Rough-Face Girl of the Algonquin tribe, or Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters from Zimbabwe!

A few favorite books in which characters display integrity:
-Amazing Grace, Mary Hoffman

-A Chair for My Mother, Vera Williams

-December, Eve Bunting (also great for teaching compassion and respect)

-Super-Completely and Totally the Messiest, Judith Viorst (also good for teaching respect for diversity, tolerance of different temperaments)
-The Day of Ahmed's Secret, Florence Parry Heide (also good for responsibility and diversity) --The Story of Ruby Bridges, Robert Coles

-Fish Is Fish, Leo Lionni

-Albert the Fix-It Man, Janet Lord
