A Note from Mr. Bender
Welcome to October! We have many exciting events planned this month including Picture Day, parent-teacher conferences, Field Day, and Red Ribbon Week. Please be sure to see the important dates section below.
Parent conferences will take place the week of October 18-22. Teachers have set up their conference schedules. You can access the conference schedule below in the Cub Corner or on the school website. Please select a time slot that works best for you. This year, we are offering in-person or digital conferences. If you would prefer a digital conference via Zoom, please be sure to click the appropriate button on the sign-up to let the teacher know.
The annual PTA Reflections contest is currently underway. Reflections is an arts competition centered around the theme, “I Will Change the World by…”. The guidelines and entry form can be found below. All entries are due by Tuesday, October 12. Entries can be submitted to the front office.
Don’t forget next week is a short week! Fall Break takes place Thursday, October 7- Monday, October 11!

Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month
Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of October is Sharing. Sharing includes sharing things and sharing ideas! As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited sharing the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month.
Each month, we will feature a mindfulness activity on the announcements, during class meetings, and on our eCLASS page. You can watch Mrs. Woodworth do a demonstration of each month’s activity on the counseling eCLASS page. This month is “Slowly, Slowly”.
Positive Post-It Day
Reading Rewards
All September logs are due to your teacher on or before Monday, Oct. 4. Be sure your log is complete before turning it in to your teacher. Check your child’s October 1st Friday folder for the October reading log. Prizes for students that completed the September log will be awarded after fall break!
Participating students will read and log at least 20 minutes per day for at least 20 days in the month. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. Logs will be sent home monthly in the weekly folders. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.
If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, please contact Jennifer.Alden@gcpsk12.org.
Look for us on Facebook. We post reminders and important dates to keep parents informed.
