IB Spotlight
IB’ in the Classroom: Research skills are one of the five IB Approaches to Learning (ATL) skill categories and a core component of an IB Education. At SVHS, our staff and student would be lost without Ms. Little-Cook’s, our Media Specialist, expertise, guidance, and support! Our IB Programs keep her busy between the IB MYP Personal Project, the IB Diploma Program’s Extended Essay, the IB Career-related Program’s Reflective Project, and the Internal Assessments (IAs) in each 11th/12th grade IB Course. She was recently in Mr. Knuuttila's IB Applications course helping students find sources for their practice Internal Assessment (IA).
IB T-shirt: Please order an IB T-shirt designed by a rising junior and future IB Diploma candidate. The funds raised will support the IB Program. Thank you for your support. Please complete this form to order a T-shirt - https://forms.gle/5VsjiZm1diTSsfZ79
Donation Requests: We would love donations of snacks for mock exams, IB exams, support sessions, and/or monetary donations to support the celebration of IB students. Please contact Ms. Ezerski at Natasha_L_Ezerski@mcpsmd.org if you are willing to help!
MYP PP & IB LP: The students completed the last lesson for the MYP Personal Project and the IB Learner Project last Wednesday! Students should have finished their product and submitted a Google slide highlighting it. The last step of the project is to reflect on the process through a final report. To help support 10th graders, students will be invited to a Final Report workshop this week. To earn SSL hours (15 hours for 10th graders and 10 hours for 9th/11th/12th graders) and for 10th graders to earn the .5 MYP Research Seminar credit, students must complete both the Product Google Slide and the Final Report. SVHS students were expected to complete either the IB Learner Project (9th, 11th, and 12th grade students) or the MYP Personal Project (10th grade students). The students received lessons and were expected to work on their projects during allotted SEL periods. The project is not required for graduation, although students can earn SSL hours and elective course credit (10th graders only) upon completing it. Please email Mrs. Becraft at Kimberly_m_becraft@mcpsmd.org if you have any questions.
