WBMS Friday Notes
August 7th-11th
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
What an outstanding opening week it has been! We welcomed 1,185 wonderful scholars back to school – including 115 new enrollees and 385 6th grade Jaguars, conducted four safety drills, rolled out over 1,000 Surface devices, taught 3,450 lessons, and prepared for the upcoming solar eclipse (more on that next week)! Meeting the students of WBMS has exceeded my expectations because I have witnessed remarkable acts of kindness, respect, and enthusiasm for learning this week - students helping other students open lockers, find the way to class, or locate the right bus; students positively greeting one another and the staff as they enter and move throughout the building; students actively engaged and participating in learning and goal setting for the year, and oh so much more. This is truly an amazing community and I feel so lucky to be part of it! It IS going to be a great year at Webb Bridge Middle School.
In collaboration -
Rebecca Williams Perkins
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

In response to feedback, we are hosting Parent Device Nights to help parents assist students with school technology. On this evening, staff members will teach common Surface troubleshooting techniques, common issues students encounter when using their Surface, how to access and work with Edmodo, and how to access and work with OneNote. We ask that interested parents bring their student’s Surface device and log in, so the evening’s learning is hands on. Please note the date for the 6th grade evening has changed:
Tuesday, August 15th – 7th and 8th grade Parent Device Night 6:00 – 7:00

Install Updates Regularly - Beginning This Weekend!
Here is a video to show you how to install your updates: Surface Video
If you prefer written directions you can get those here.
"My Surface Won't Charge""
One of our Device Expectations is for your device to be fully charged everyday you come to school. But what happens when it won't charge? Follow the troubleshooting directions below to walk you through solving this issue.
Shut down the tablet completely. Start Menu - Power - Shut Down. Do not press the power button at the top - it will only put the tablet to sleep. Try a different outlet at home when charging - be sure to use the power brick given to you at deployment. Install updates if possible.
The screen should go completely black. Let it charge for 2 hours minimum. Make sure the charger is completely connected to the Surface.
Try all these steps before bringing to the Media Center.
