Sierra Family Newsletter December 10, 2021

Message from the Principal

Hello, Sierra Families!

Social-Emotional Learning

This last week of December we are finishing our focus on perseverance through our new social-emotional curriculum. January will be focused on empathy. Here is more information for parents about ways you can explore and support this topic from home, from the publisher:

Spanish at Sierra

Today is Profesora Celina's last day working with our sharks teaching them Spanish! We wish her the best on her next adventure. We have hired Angelica Martinez to fill her position. Angelica comes to Sierra with a lot of educational experience under her belt, and is spending this week and next working with Celina to ensure a successful transition of our Spanish program from one great educator to another. Please join us in welcoming Angelica to the Sierra community!

Chromebooks! Do you have one at home?

Did you know most students prefer Chromebooks at home over iPads and desktop computers? Many students report that it's far easier to complete schoolwork on a Chromebook than any other type of device. If you do not have a Chromebook for each of your RUSD school-aged children at home, I urge you to complete the form below if you haven't already! We have had great success and will soon deploy our first round of Chromebooks to families who completed the form earlier this year. We have just closed the initial rounds of these form applications and are now accepting another round of applications for families who have missed the initial opportunities.

This is NOT an income-based program. If you don't have a Chromebook for each school-aged RUSD child in your household, you qualify!

Thank you for reading, and keep on scrolling to be in the know!

Amy Westberg, Principal

Want to get use of a free Chromebook for your child?

Click the image below if so! Even if you have a PC or tablet at home that your child can use for homework and other school activities, Chromebooks are optimized for completing work since they are seamlessly integrated and made for use with Google Apps for Education (Docs, Slides, Gmail, and more!) that our students in RUSD use throughout their K-12 experience. This program is NOT income-based. PLEASE sign up for each child if you haven't already! Thank you!
Big picture

Are you cleared to volunteer?

To ensure compliance with RUSD and the state of California's volunteer policies, parents who wish to volunteer on campus during the school day must have:

RUSD Policy:

  • Fingerprinting completed for RUSD specifically. Prior fingerprinting done for any agency or organization other than RUSD will not be accepted. Fingerprinting takes approximately 72 hours to clear.
  • Current Tuberculosis Test (TB). TB tests expire every 4 years and must be renewed in order to volunteer. TB Tests take approximately 48-72 hours for results and results must be brought to the office.

State of California Policy:

  • Vaccination status or proof of a current negative COVID test uploaded to the link included in the email from Informed K12. If you have not received this email, please let the office know. Details about this are included in the Informed K12 email.

To check your volunteer status, please call the office or email our Secretary, Kimberly Ervin, at
