QUOTE OF THE MONTH
Starting new tasks, changing habits, or moving toward personal goals can be daunting and, sometimes, downright overwhelming! However, the freedom begins in the moment that you decide to try and begin to create movement in your life. Every movement toward your vision should be counted as a success. Celebrating small personal victories will keep motivation and energy moving in the direction that you desire. Best with your personal growth this fall!

Tips for Parents by Dr. Kathryn Hanna Brideau
- Relax and make time for yourself- engage in deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, meditation or warm baths. Anything to lower your stress. Understand your stress signs to prevent overload before it becomes a problem.
- Get moving! Studies suggest that by making the body stronger and healthier, exercise enhances your ability to respond to stress, thus thwarting many of its negative effects such as anxiety, depression and heart disease.
- Play with your children: Go to the park, play house, draw, etc. Take time to do the fun things. Many behavior problems are due to attention seeking from your child and can be reduced with play.
- Watch what you eat and drink: your diet and nutrition choices are linked to stress. Eliminate simple sugar, starches and processed foods. Try to avoid caffeine before 5pm.
- Get 8 hours of sleep a night
- Get up 15 minutes earlier- the inevitable morning mishaps will be less stressful
- Prepare for the morning the evening before- make lunches, put out the clothes, set the table.
- Don’t rely on your memory- Write down appointment times and other necessities. Use lists and a calendar.
- Set up a contingency plan- have a backup plan ready to go so when things come up it is no big deal!
- Unplug your phone and limit screen time
- Stay organized- once a week do a quick clean up and get rid of all the things you do not need.
- Focus on the things you CAN control and don’t worry about what you can’t.
- Establish support systems and schedule date nights. Have someone to be able to talk it out with and use them as a sounding board.
- Laugh a little! (or a lot!)
