THE CHALLENGER
BY:MALACHI SPENCER
“Five, four, three, two, one,Lift off! Seventy three seconds after lift off one of the world's biggest tragedies acurred. At a speed of two-hundred-four miles per hour seven crew members died in an explosion! It was like it was raining cats and dogs because of all the debris falling.
CONSTRUCTION
Can you believe as NASA was building the Challenger they included four boosters that each have a speed of fifty-one miles per hour? The Challenger cost nineteen-billion dollars,so it was one of their most expensive space shuttles .Another fact is that it is lighter than it was strong.”well that makes sense”.
MISSIONS
The Challenger was delayed six times because of bad weather. When that happened it was it’s tenth attempt. It also deployed two satellites.
DEATH
After a few months on March seventh nineteen eighty seven NASA and other corporations recovered the crew members bodies in the passenger compartment. It desinigrated over the Atlantic ocean.Still the cause of death can’t be determined.
SPEACH
When Christa McAuliffe was chosen to go into space she said “I cannot join the space program and restart my life as an astronaut".
ICE
Another thing that went wrong is during the lift off someone noticed ice on the platform.Which was a bad thing because that meant it was too cold for lift off.The temperature could only be thirty-four degrees or higher.
OCEAN
During the disintegration twenty-one-thousand gallons of oil spilled in the Atlantic ocean. There was ecological impact when it hit the water.
HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
Hold on because it gets worse! During lift off there was a puff of smoke on the side. Also during the creation NASA accidentally made one booster unpressurised with air.
VAST IMPROVMENTS
Since this tragedy the Air Force says “No more satellite missions”.Also the Government talks about this during lift off meetings.
