Message from the Principal
Hello parents,
October has arrived and activities here in school are really picking up steam. Challenge Day for freshman kicked off our Week of Respect activities on Monday. 9th graders came together as a class and had opportunities to discover more about their classmates and their lives away from school. It was an emotional day full of connections that can only arise through a mutually trying and shared experience. A 'Be the Change' committee of students is already forming to help percolate some of the good feelings of Challenge Day in other parts of our school. Thank you to all the adults who also participated, modeling the vulnerability needed for authentic conversations.
We also partnered with The Youth Alliance to bring motivational speaker/illusionist Tom Coverly to speak to all our students in grades 6 - 12. His illusions were the entertainment needed to open the door for his message of mutual respect to walk through to our students' hearts. He was well received. Tom also performed for our elementary students and even brought some joy to our parents with a free evening event.
Mid-week brought our first AVID Family Night of the year. This tradition enables our select AVID students and their teachers to share their organizational strategies for success. Techniques designed for students to take true ownership of their learning and buy into the process are displayed pulling parents into this education loop. AVID truly is a family. It is no wonder why our AVID students consistently outperform their non-AVID peers and why AVID is the basis for our inter-district school choice program. Congratulations to all involved in hosting this wonderful event!
Senior Parent Night was this week as well. School counselors and representatives from RCGC were here to help explain the college application process, financial aid opportunities, and potential scholarships to our 12 grade students and their families. On October 16 at 5:30 pm in the library, parents can also come out for FAFSA Night (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This will be more than just an informational session; you will be guided through actually completing the form right here at school!
Today 6th & 9th grade students had their respective Townhall meetings. These grade level affairs allow students in an individual grade band to hear important information that pertains to them as a group. Administrators, teachers, and advisers were able to speak to students directly to make sure they are aware of all the many happenings here in Woodbury.
Join me in congratulating Acquanetta Allen and Jessica Thomulka as our September Employee's of the Month! Selected by their peers, Mrs. Allen and Ms. Thomulka exemplify our motto of 'Keeping Love Present' and work everyday to personalize this educational experience for our students. You can see their pictures below.
Finally, good luck to the Thundering Herd football team as we play against arch-rival Paulsboro tomorrow at 2 pm away in the South Jersey Game of the Week! #GoHerd #StampedeTheRedRaiders

AP Scholars
The College Board awards students the distinction of an 'AP Scholar' when they average a 3.00 on 3 or more AP exams. This past graduating class had 13% of our Seniors earn AP Scholar distinction!
Project Graduation Fundraiser
The Project Graduation Committee is selling fall flowers to raise money for our seniors to participate in an awesome experience the night of graduation. Please be generous and support their efforts!
PTSA - Wear Pink
The PTSA would like all students and faculty to wear pink on Friday, October 19 for breast cancer awareness. A group photograph will be taken at 9 am with everyone wearing pink that day. Please try to support this worthwhile cause!
AVID Family Night
Students displayed some of the skills they've learned in their AVID class during the first AVID family night of the year. Students recounted how AVID is helping them in their classes by developing organizational, note-taking, and questioning skills and in applying to colleges. Some students also demonstrated a mock study group activity called tutorology while other students discussed a mock trial they're working on. In the college admissions game, the students, and a willing parent volunteer, learned how many factors come into play when colleges decide on whom to admit. Giveaways and light refreshments completed the night.
