1. Please Join us for the Katie Greer Parent Program on Sept. 27

It’s often overwhelming being a parent today in our technology-driven society. Keeping up with the latest trends and dangers can often seem like an impossible task.

On Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the gym, Rice PTA is sponsoring a special parent program facilitated by Katie Greer, a recognized national expert in Internet/digital safety and technology. This program is a must for every parent concerned about keeping their kids safe.

Katie will help you navigate the digital waters and let you know what’s new, what’s now, and what’s next when it comes to your children and technology, and provides parents with proactive initiatives to keep kids safe. She’ll answer questions such as: What apps should I be worried about? Is social networking safe? Is my child being cyberbullied? What’s texting? Sexting? What’s next?

Katie has presented to hundreds of thousands of students, parents, educators and administrators across the country. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to be informed. No kids under 18 will be allowed to attend the Sept. 27 evening session.

2. Ravens Take Flight, Outreach Program!

This year Mr. Glasscock has challenged Rice staff, students, and parents to give back to the community. We have a number of activities planned throughout the year and our first one is currently underway.

Please join us for our September Outreach, Spreading Hope Peanut Butter Drive, as we partner with the Plano Mayor, Plano City Council, and the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) to collect unopened, regular-sized, plastic peanut butter jars to help rid hunger in our area. This food drive will last the entire month, and jars can be left on the table in the rotunda. Our Rice goal is 600 jars of peanut butter, and we currently have 291 jars. Please help us reach our goal by donating a jar of peanut butter this week! More information about the NTFB can be found here: http://web.ntfb.org/planokids.

For those with Allergies: We are also accepting other butters such as soy, sun, and almond, but please make sure these are in plastic jars. Thanks!!!!
