THE POWER OF OUR WORDS
POWER UP SIEGRIST PIRATES!!!
The Power of your ONE WORD!!
Our words have power. As a staff last year we each selected a word that would support us throughout the school year. This year as we focus on Powering Up, we have asked our students to join us in using the power of our words to support us in overcoming challenges and reaching our goals throughout the year.
Students have been thinking about and selecting a word to help them power up and they have been making these visible in our halls. We want to share with you a book that you can watch as a family and talk about their goals and one word. CLICK HERE to watch this read by the author of One Word for Kids.
If you would like to join us, we invite you to take a moment to watch this short video that our staff watched, and think about what is your One Word. Click HERE for a word list to help get you started. This One Word is meant to inspire and help us simplify our focus for the year. We hope this creates clarity and empowers ALL Siegrist Pirates.
All the best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

Platte County Education Foundation Fundraiser - September 7-19
This week we will kick off our Platte County Education Foundation discount card sales program. Our schools, in conjunction with Major Saver, work with businesses throughout our District to offer a $15 discount card providing customers with 21 local buy-one-get-one-free or discount offers. In most cases, redeeming only two offers offsets the cost of the card. Proceeds from the card campaign directly benefit your student's school and the Platte County Education Foundation. The Foundation gives back to the Platte County R-3 community by awarding annual pre-K through 12th grade classroom and building site grants, as well as senior scholarships. Your student will be bringing home an envelope with information and instructions on Wednesday, September 7, and will be instructed to not go "door-to-door," but to offer to relatives, friends, co-workers, etc. Collection dates start on Monday, September 12, and the program wraps up on Monday, September 19. Please consider purchasing a card and supporting our schools! You can also purchase cards online here.
Professional Learning Community (PLC) Early Release
On Wednesday, September 14, students will be released two hours early for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2022-23 school year. PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the district's website.
Dot Day - September 15 - Wear your Dots!
On Thursday, Sept. 15, Siegrist will be celebrating Dot Day. This special day is based on a book written by Peter H. Reynolds titled The Dot. His purpose for writing this book was to remind readers that creativity lies within each of us. This power allows us to enrich ourselves and everyone around us.
On Thursday, Sept. 15, students are invited to wear clothing with dots on it. Your child can get creative, but anything with dots is just fine!
Open Positions at PCR-3
The school year has started, but we still have some openings across our District, including bus drivers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and lunch monitors. If interested in joining our team, click here to apply!
Specifically at Siegrist Elementary, we have openings for Support Staff/Paraprofessional, Elementary Teaching/Elementary Level Educator, and Support Staff/Lunch Monitor .
English Language Arts and Math Screener (Fastbridge) to Guide Personalized Instruction
Students in PCR-3 participate in screening in English Language Arts and Mathematics as a way to provide information related to skill acquisition in those areas. This assessment, known as FastBridge, replaces STAR, which was used in the District for quite some time. Fastbridge is a nationally normed screener and is a skills-aligned assessment that will inform instruction to best meet student learning needs. This assessment will be administered three times this school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Our Fall window runs September 1 - September 30. Students do not need to prepare for this assessment and the results are used for informational purposes only.
22-23 Siegrist Lunch Visitor Sign Up Link and Guidelines
Siegrist Lunch Visitor Guidelines
Reminders Before Visiting:
- Sign up prior to arriving at school.
- Bring a state-issued ID so the office can check you in using our Hall Pass System.
- Visitors must be listed on the student’s SIS K-12 account or parent permission must be received at the office prior to the visit.
- Verify your student’s lunch time before arrival.
- Please keep in mind that we have limited seating for visitors. Because of limited space, only two adult visitors will be able to join the student for lunch.
- Parents who show up for lunch without signing up will be added if there is an open spot, but denied if not. The lunch can be passed on to the student, and the office can help the parent sign up for a future date.
Visitor Guidelines and Reminders:
- Parents may bring outside food for their child and self.
- No more than 2 adults can sign up per student.
- Parents may not go back to the classroom or recess after lunch.
- Only the child (no friends) can sit with the parent/visitor during lunch.
- Friendly Reminder: Our teachers have a very short lunch break and may have several things they need to take care of during this time. If you need to talk to your student's teacher please refrain from having a meeting during their lunch time, and instead schedule a time through the office.
Thank you for visiting Siegrist. We are so excited for your visit and thankful for your understanding and support.
If you have any additional questions or needs please contact our school office.
Classroom Lunch Schedules
Siegrist Lunch Visitor Sign Up
All visitors will be asked to check in with the office upon arrival at school prior to entering the school. Hall Pass Visitor Management system has been installed in all of our schools to improve overall building safety/security and visitor management. The Hall Pass Visitor Management system will:
Conduct a screening on each visitor using the sex offender registry
Will log in volunteers to track their hours
Will be used to document late arriving students.
Whenever any non-student or non-district employee requests to enter any area of the building where children are accessible, essentially beyond the front office, they will be asked to produce a government issued ID:
State driver’s license
State issued ID
Passport
US Military ID
Permanent resident card
The ID will be scanned and a badge will be given to visitors. This process is key to continuing to maintain and improve a safe and caring environment for our students and staff. A visitor’s badge needs to be worn at all times while visiting the school.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome to a new school year! We are so happy to have you at Siegrist. This year we have made some changes to the counseling department that we wanted to share with you. We now have two counselors at Siegrist: Dr.Mann and Mrs. Burrows! Dr. Mann will be working with 2nd -5th graders and Mrs. Burrows will be working with Kindergarten and 1st graders. Mrs. Burrows is at Siegrist on Thursday and Friday and a rotating Wednesday. She is split between us and Compass. The school counseling program overview can be viewed here.
Attendance:
School attendance is so important! Our school attendance goal is: 90% or higher attendance. We wanted to share a few attendance facts with you to highlight the importance of attendance:
Missing two days per month is the equivalent of 18 days per year or 10% of the school year.
Poor attendance can affect a child’s ability to read proficiently by the end of third grade.
When school attendance improves, so does the likelihood of graduating high school.
-We are here to work as a team to help your child succeed. If getting to school is a concern, please reach out to a staff member for assistance.
The best way to reach us is via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you are needing anything. Our contact information is below:
