December 2019
A Message from the Principal:
Greetings, Energy Bus Riders!
Hello and welcome to December! Can you believe we only have a few more weeks in the year 2019? With the holidays quickly approaching and the hustle and bustle that comes with them, it's a great time to remember the importance of fueling our rides with positive energy and having a positive mindset.
The Energy Bus Student Pledge for Principle #4: "I Fuel My Ride with Positive Energy because being positive makes me better and it makes everyone around me better."
It's almost half-way through the school year and it is time for our mid-year iReady diagnostic assessments! Knowing how students are doing now will help your child's teacher celebrate growth and plan instruction. It is important that students are putting forth their best effort on these mid-year assessments in order for students' results to be accurate. Over the next three weeks, all students in 5K through 4th grade will be taking mid-year iReady diagnostic assessments in both Reading and Math. Your child's teacher will be sharing the specific dates of these mid-year diagnostics. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher.
Buckle up and let's enjoy the ride together! Please be sure to read about all of the exciting events scheduled at SCES during the month of December! Thank you for making Shoally Creek Elementary a great place to learn! #SCELovewhereyoulearn ♥
Happy Holidays!
Sending positive energy your way!

Become a Mentor!
According to Harvard University's Center on Developing Child, "Every child who ends up doing well has had at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive adult." This year, our school is partnering with Mentor Upstate, a nonprofit organization, that seeks to support children with one-on-one positive relationships. As we launch this exciting program, we are looking for committed adults who are willing to support and encourage ONE student for the year. If you or someone you know from our school community can give 30 minutes a week, we need you!!
If you have any questions, you are invited to email the director of Mentor Spartanburg, at natalie@mentorupstate.org.

Reminders
*All afternoon transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 11:00 am. Please reference the Student Handbook for further information.
*Please remember the South Carolina Compulsory Attendance Laws and Regulations in regards to the number of minutes students must attend school each day. Every minute that a student is not in class is counted and reported to the state. If a student misses even 15 minutes of class, this adds up to over an hour of class each week. Please make every minute count for learning!
