What Is Differentiation?
What It Is and What It is Not...
What Differentiation Is...
1. Flexible Grouping
2. High Expectations for all
3. Providing a variety of ways to express learning
4. Meeting the students where they are and "upping" the learning
5. Knowing your students and providing to each individual student
6. Like a one-room schoolhouse, working with individuals, groups, or whole group when needed.
7. Ongoing assessment
8. Student-centered
What Differentiation Is Not...
1. Homogeneous grouping based on academic ability (Tracking)
2. High expectations for only the ones we 'think' are capable.
3. One size fits all - same product, process, and content for each kid.
4. Classroom chaos (poor classroom management is detrimental for learning)
5. More work for GT and less work for Sped.
6. Assessment for grading and not for learning.
7. Teacher-centered
