The Next Phase #TRSafeReturn

Dear Pirate Families,

On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the Board of Education and Central Administration announced all elementary schools will be moving to four, shortened days of in-person instruction starting Monday, March 1, 2021. Fridays will remain virtual for all students.

Families will have the option to return for four days or may choose all virtual learning. The Parent Portal is open for parents to make their selection and will closed on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. If a selection is not made, students will default to in-person instruction.

IN THE CLASSROOMS

Mrs. Gottlieb's class has been learning about digraphs and long vowels. They have been learning to read them and use them in their writing. This week they are working on writing "juicy" sentences. "Juicy" sentences are sentences with 5-6 words in them. The students get so excited when they can write and read a long sentence. Mrs. Gottlieb is very proud of her students!

We've been learning a lot over the last few weeks in Media/Tech! Recently we've learned about the setting of stories and the parts of a book. Coming up we'll be learning about copyright, taking credit for our work, and respecting the work of others. I'm so proud of all of my students for being great listeners and working so hard! Great job boys and girls!

For any parents that would like the link to our Bitmoji Media/Tech Classroom, here it is https://tinyurl.com/y4lcba8e. In addition, I add resources to my Clever Classroom every month too! If you'd like to check that out look for the Bitmoji picture of me holding a book on Clever and it will take you to my Clever Classroom resources. Enjoy! :) Mrs. Brown

Mr. Brown, Mr. DeRiggi, and Mrs. Gawalis are so proud of the effort and interest 5th grade students have been exhibiting during the courage unit. This unit encompasses language arts and social studies, and has introduced students to several courageous historical figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, Malala Yousafzai, Mahatma Gandhi, and Ruby Bridges. Currently, we are instructing students on concepts related to World War 2 and the Holocaust to prepare them for the historical fiction novel Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. In math, we are continuing to work with decimal computation, specifically multiplication and division. It is imperative that students have a firm grasp on their multiplication facts. We encourage all students to continue to work on iReady, Edmentum, and their independent reading to build confidence. hank you for your continued support :)

The third grade students have been writing persuasive essays and have been working on pictographs in math.

Spotlight on World Language:

¡Hola Familias!

You may have noticed your children counting in Spanish class. We have been working to better learn our numbers so we can use them in real world ways like telling time, adding and subtracting. I am so proud of our North Dover Pirates and all of the responsibility they are showing as they are prepared to learn each day. Fourth and Fifth graders are remembering their Spanish workbooks and are always ready to learn! Grade 3 students are diligently completing their online Salsa assignments. Keep up the GREAT work! I am so proud of you!

¡Buen trabajo! Sra. Leone

I think of it as a bulletin board for mental health resources. If you or someone you know is experiencing increased stress or anxiety, please check out some of the websites, helplines and resources here:

Y Kids Before and After School Care

See the flyer below for information on before and after school care offered at North Dover Elementary through the Toms River YMCA.

Edmentum Exact Path and iReady Update

Toms River Regional Schools currently uses two online platforms to help individualize student instruction in ELA and Mathematics. Edmentum Exact Path is used for ELA, while iReady is used in Mathematics. In order to progress on these platforms, students need to complete their assigned lessons. Each week, they are required to complete 40 minutes in their learning pathway on iReady and master one to two skills in Exact Path. Reach out to your child's teacher to inquire about your child's progress on these platforms.
