Diocese of Manchester 2021-2022 COVID Safety Plan

Please take time to read our Diocesan COVID Safety Plan. This plan was updated by Superintendent Thibault and a leadership team for the new school year. Our individual school plans will be updated and posted on the website by the end of the week.

STJ 2021-2022 COVID-19 Safety Plan

Updated 9/26/21 using the CDC School and Childcare Toolkit. Please review pages 9 and 10 of the toolkit, linked in the Safety Plan, for the decision-making matrix.

STJ Bears ~ Virtuous Behavior

At St. Joseph Regional Jr. High School, we value virtuous behavior alongside scholarly disposition and achievement. We are teaching and reinforcing the Catholic virtues each month, challenging students to elevate interactions with one another and their teachers to reveal a strong and growing relationship with God.

Unfortunately, sometimes students of this age make poor decisions. We are teaching them to recognize the outcome of the decisions and actions, genuinely ask forgiveness, attend confession, and offer restitution, demonstrating that they have learned from the mistake. Our students are not perfect and need constant coaching. We ask them to be open to transformation and getting to know themselves and others more deeply. We ask them to turn to Jesus in prayer when they are lost, angry, struggling, to gain courage each day to make the decisions that bring them closest to Him.

We value a culture of compassion, kindness, humility, devotion, and service to others. We ask for their help in protecting each other. If they see something inconsistent with these intentions, we need their involvement. Together, with our guidance, they create the culture they inhabit. Please encourage them to inspire others to live the virtues each day so St. Joe's will be the school all children want to be.

Teachers are nominating our STJ Bears each month for their virtuous behavior and several will be selected and presented with gold crosses at the October 6th mass. These pins have decorated the lapels of St. Joe's graduates for many years and it is an honor to wear them and remember what they represent.

COVID-19 Vaccination Questionnaire

As you can imagine, this year school leaders, staff, and parents are navigating complications not forecasted at this time in 2020. Though we do not have a mask mandate, it is important to remember that the pandemic is not over. We continue to be as vigilant as possible while allowing parental agency on masking.

For the purpose of collecting data collection, I have constructed a brief, voluntary questionnaire for families about the vaccination status of their St. Joe's students. If you would be willing to share that information, please consider completing it by Friday, October 1st.

NWEA Testing Next Week - Please Note

NWEA testing will begin next week on October 5th. We are making a change to our school calendar. Due to the number of students in the entire building taking NWEA tests, our wifi connection and ability to provide necessary accommodations will be best if we do the following:

Only seventh graders will attend on Tuesday, October 5th. Eighth-grade students will be off of school.

Only eighth-graders will attend on Tuesday, October 12th. Seventh-grade students will be off of school.

Any make-up sessions will be held on Friday. We want to provide all students with the best possible chance to share what they know. The students will take a total of three tests, reading, language, and math. Each test takes approximately 45 minutes, but students may have as much time as they need. Students should bring a book to read upon completion of each test. The tests are not associated with their grades, however, we do use the information to track student progress over time and determine overarching curriculum strengths and gaps. You will receive reports about your child's progress when the testing is complete. All hot lunches purchased for those days can certainly be credited.

Fall Sports - Cross Country and Soccer Team Highlights!

We are so proud of the cross country athletes and the boys' and girls' soccer teams! They continue to support one another and represent our school in the most honorable way. Thank you to all of our coaches for your commitment to our students. We truly do appreciate your guidance, kindness, and encouragement. As students settle into the new school year, they are often learning to balance work and play. Please remember that our after school homework help group is available for students to get work done during a practice time to assure they can maintain scholarship during the season.
