🏆 Teacher(s) of the Year
The Sherman School Teachers were collectively awarded as "Teacher of the Year" for 2020-2021. In order to properly celebrate each of our teachers, we are highlighting a different teacher each week. Please join us in congratulating Week #20 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Michelle Baird! 🎉
✏️ Star 360 Testing
Students in K-8 are taking the Star 360 assessments this month. Thank you in advance for supporting your child during our testing window, January 10th through January 28th. This support could include helping students to get a good night’s rest as well as eating a healthy breakfast and lunch. It could also include encouraging students to do their best on the assessments as the information gathered from the results will help us determine instructional needs.
Should you have any questions, please reach out to Kara DiBartolo, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Innovation, at dibartolok@shermanschool.com.

✏️ Ben's Bells in Newtown, CT
Last Thursday was an exciting day for a very special reason. For the first time since the pandemic began, students were able to enjoy a FIELD TRIP! Some of our 8th graders had a blast visiting Ben's Bells in Newtown, CT.
This Week In Art 🎨 🖌
After viewing the work of artist Heather Hansen, students in 7th grade created their own charcoal and pastel compositions while considering how the body’s symmetrical movements impact both the process and the product. Check out some of their amazing creations below 👇
✏️ Friendly Reminders
Just a friendly reminder of a few things to help ensure a safe and speedy morning drop-off process:
- Pull your vehicle all the way up to the end of the drop-off area: This is essential to avoid a backup on Rt. 37 as cars attempt to enter our parking lot.
- Make sure your child is ready: This includes students having their hat, gloves, and masks on so they can exit the car quickly.
- Have students exit on the curbside: Drop-off will be smoother if children are seated on the passenger side so they can get out without needing to walk around the front or rear of the car. We have staff to assist with opening doors as needed and are happy to help!
- Beware of ice: There are areas marked off with cones where ice forms and is not easily treated. Please avoid letting your child out of the car in these areas to avoid injuries.
