Student News and Reminders
Lucky Lion Student Raffle
The Woodcreek PTO will be drawing winners for the Lucky Lion Student Raffle on Friday, January 31st. There are some great prizes for our Woodcreek students to win including a Chromebook, Airpods Pro, parties to places like MaxBowl and Escape IT Houston and chances to hang out with some of the Woodcreek staff for a day! You must be a current Woodcreek Middle School student to win and restrictions apply on prize packages.
All raffle tickets are $1 and will be available for sale online through the PTO website at https://humbleisd.net/wms/pto from now through Sunday, January 26th. $10 minimum for online purchases but we are offering a special package, ONLINE ONLY, for a pack of 25 tickets for $20. Tickets purchased online will be delivered to the student’s 4th period teacher on Monday, January 27th. Tickets will also be on sale during all lunches on Monday, January 27th – Thursday, January 30th and students can drop their raffle tickets in the containers for all raffle prizes during this time. Science News
6th Grade Science has started their force and motion unit. Next week they will be taking a test over balanced and unbalanced forces on Thursday . They will also start studying speed graphs. Have a safe and happy weekend!
7th Grade Science will be completing some dissections to emphasize what they are learning about body systems next week. This is always a fun (sometimes gross) unit with the dissection as the students can really see the different organ systems in an organism. Students will take a labeling exam next Friday. After our body system unit we will be studying adaptations and natural selection.
8th Grade Science- Next week student will be taking their test over Plate Tectonics and Topographic Maps on Wednesday. They have been completing some fun interactive activities to learn about these subjects. After the test we will be moving into our weather unit. Have a safe and happy weekend!

8th Grade RELA will begin our next multi-genre unit entitled: "Places We Call Home." This unit will allow students to explore the various places that shape an
individual's identity. We will be reading the novel Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman to analyze theme, character development, and linear plot structure. Have a great weekend!
Social Studies News
7th Grade Texas History - Next week students will be exploring the impact of the Mexican War on Texas, discuss key figures from the period of early statehood, compare and contrast the Texas Constitution with the U.S. Constitution, and describe the immigrant groups that arrived in the 19th Century to Texas.
8th Grade U.S. History - classes are in the midst of examining and analyzing the difficulties faced and the long term effects of decisions made by Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Students have examined the tie during the Election of 1800 and being the reason for the 12th Amendment. We have also discussed the pros and cons of making the Louisiana Purchase as President Jefferson. Students will also analyze the Supreme Court case which established the power of Judicial Review.
In the coming days students Students will discover the causes and effects of the War of 1812 had on the U.S. and its citizens. The War of 1812, with Great Britain, caused much turmoil and panic during this time in American History, but would also bring forth a new generation of American heroes and a revived sense of Nationalism
Math News
Upcoming units in Math are as follows:
6th: Expressions and Equations. Students will be reviewing order of operations with exponents while analyzing equivalent expressions.
7th: Linear Equations. Students in 7th grade will be studying rates of change in various representations: graphs, tables and verbal situations.
8th: Geometry! Students will begin reviewing area of circles Monday, followed by their unit on volume of cylinders, cones and spheres.

Reminders of Campus Polices and Procedures
Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.
- If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. After using a tissue, throw it in the trash and wash your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like flu.

ID Badges
All student are required to wear their ID badge on their lanyard around their neck at all times.
-Students that are seen throughout the school day with their ID badge in their pocket, backpack, or under their shirt will automatically receive an after school detention.
-Students that fail to get a needed temporary ID badge before arriving to 1st period will automatically receive an after school detention.
-Any students that attempt to wear a temporary ID badge that reflects a previous date, will automatically receive an after school detention.
Early Parent Pick-Up
Tardies
3rd/4th Tardy- After school detention on Tuesday or Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. with parent contact (transportation will not be provided)
5th/6th Tardy- Extended after school detention on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. with parent contact (transportation will not be provided)
7th Tardy- ISS and parent conference
All tardies will be cleared at the end of each 9 week period
Dress Code Campus Policy
- No tights or leggings made of spandex or tight material
- No excessively tight clothing
- No bandanas of any color
- No hats or beanies
- No head scarfs or wave caps
- No headbands that are 3-D
- Hoods must be off if wearing a hoodie in the building
