Grant Gazette
September 2021
Dear Families,
Dear Families:
Labor Day Weekend is one of my favorite times of the year. Cooler weather, family cookouts, and football games are wonderful things to look forward to.
I usually include the start of school with that list of things that I love about Labor Day, but as I look at the calendar, I realize that we've already been in school more than three weeks!
I am amazed every day at the wonderful things that our students learn for the incredible teachers at Grant. The smiles, the growth, and the relationships our students are building is awesome! I am so happy to work with these terrific students and adults at Grant.
And I should include the families, as well! I appreciate the support that our Grant families provide by caring for our students and supporting our teachers. Between our students, families, and staff, we make up a great team!
You can become even more involved with your child's education by doing two things:
1. Make sure you are connected with your child's classroom through Seesaw. Seesaw is a way for you to literally see and hear what's going on in your child's classroom. If you're not sure how to register for Seesaw, contact your child's teacher.
2. Get involved with our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). This group raises money for some of the "extras" we'd like to have at Grant and also sponsors and help with some activities throughout the year, such as student assemblies, field trips, Family Feast, Dr. Seuss Night, and more! Contact me for more information about how to get involved with PTO. Our next meeting is September 23!
Have a terrific September!

Join SchoolStore.com!
We want to spread the news that our school will earn money when our families and friends shop at SchoolStore.com. To do this, we will be sending parent information home with each student on September 7 and rewarding the students who help spread the news.
Be on the lookout for the information your student brings home on Sept. 7! You can also learn more about the program at SchoolStore.com. To watch a short video about the program, go to http://schoolstore.com/video. Click on the banner that says, "Huggers Only." This is the same video that the students watched on Sept. 7.

Attendance and Illness
Well, unless the child has a fever of over 100 degrees or has thrown up overnight, the answer to that question is usually "Yes!" Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in determining school success. You can't learn if you're not here!
In addition:
regular school attendance is basic to the continuity of the learning process
the real value of the educational process comes from the continuous interactions and relationships developed between the teacher and individual students as well as between students
the discipline developed through punctual and regular attendance enhances the chances of success in all areas of a student’s life
In order to help your child have consistent, regular attendance, please consider the following:
I will talk to my child about how going to school every day will help them do well in school and achieve their hopes and dreams.
If my child complains of a stomachache or headache, and medical concerns have been ruled out, I will send him/her to school anyway.
If my child has a cold but no fever (less than 100 degrees), I will send him/her to school anyway. The school will contact me if my child’s fever increases.
If my child is absent, I will contact his/her teacher to find out what he/she missed.
Whenever possible, I will set up medical and dental appointments for weekdays after school or when school is not in session.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome back to school! I am Mrs. Moreno, the guidance counselor at Grant!
I hope that by now, you are settling into the school routine! I am the school counselor at Grant and truly love helping all of your children here at Grant! If you have any needs or concerns and aren't sure who to turn to, I am always a good starting place. Don't hesitate to contact me!
Each year at Kindergarten Roundup, I share ways to be a great school parent. In case you didn't get this presentation, or would like to see how you are doing with these suggestions, here is a refresher!
1. Create routine - regular meal times and bedtimes throughout the week.
2. Check the weather and dress your child appropriately for the day and any changes coming. Be aware of weather announcements affecting school.
3. Check backpacks every night. Read to/with your child!
4. Get connected to school communications - Seesaw, Facebook, and/or Twitter.
5. Call the school when your child is sick and/or will miss school.
6. Keep your contact information current and provide emergency contacts who are available when you are not.
7. Attend parent teacher conferences, and school functions when you can, to get connected and involved.
8. Make attendance a priority. Try to schedule vacations when we don’t have school.
9. Notify school of family events that may affect your child and/or any needs your family has that we can possibly help with.
10. Keep mornings positive and observe routines. Save big news for after school - not on the way to school.
