Cool optional trainings
- July 31st STEMScopes Training w. Bernabo

- Join Camp Director Jennifer Serravallo for the Third Annual Camp experience, this time: Reading & Writing Summer Camp: Exploring Mentor Texts to Teach Strategies from July 27–August 7, 2020 in the Reading and Writing Strategies Facebook Group. Take five minutes a day to explore ways to use a small set of mentor texts (some in English and some in Spanish) again and again to teach reading and writing strategies.
Fact #1 - Will teachers be scanning temperatures when students enter the classroom?
Teachers will not screen students each morning. LEISD policy states that families are responsible for monitoring their children for symptoms of illness. This policy maintains confidentiality of each learner, which is so important. Nurse Sinfo Ruiz will be the only one that take student temperatures in the clinic. If a student is found to have fever there will be a protocol followed. This will be reviewed with staff and is available in the FAQ - see link above/Health link.
At times such as listed above our clinic will be an isolation area to minimize exposure to students and staff. This means minor injuries and medicine dispensing may look a little different. We will discuss this when all staff return.
Fact #2 - Do we have backpack hooks upstairs? Where will students put their backpacks? Shared supplies
When thinking of shared supplies we want to eliminate sharing of frequently used items such as pencils, scissors, glue etc. It will not be possible to prevent students from touch items but we will use times such as this as opportunities to rotate items and or clean items. In my opinion paper that is passed out to students can be in one location. Again we can talk about this as teams when you return.
Fact #3 - What will at home learning look like?
Attendance for students will be based upon completion of daily activities.
** Students with special education services whom select at home learning will have an ARD meeting to address what their continuity plan will look like for that student.
Fact 4 - Staffing for At Home teachers - how will this affect our overall staffing?
Some areas I know will be affected and we will work on when this time comes:
- Adjusting class lists and balancing
- Evaluating staffing in departmentalized grades if needed - we will cross this bridge when we get there but we can guess that this will have a ripple effect and the need to look at who is teaching what. Please know all affected will be a part of the conversation.
Fact #5 - Your voice matters
Classroom Work Sign Up
- You may move furniture within a house with MUTUAL agreement. Please talk things out and find win win situations.
- You may NOT move furniture between houses with out permission granted - submit request to Karla.
- The middle areas should remain set up as learning spaces.
- Houses need to talk to each other about plans for cabinet material moves.
- No boxes in spaces - when you get new instructional materials they must be unpacked and stored for use in learning spaces.
We are not encouraging you to start working but many of you are chomping at the bit to get in. Remember you will be provided work day time when you return. Please read expectations carefully.
- You must sign up on the spreadsheet. Hours are 9 am - 3 pm. (indicated what times you will be present next to your name)
- We will only allow ONE upstairs area and ONE down stairs area daily due to sanitation requirements and custodial hours. Highly recommend you talk with your team about this.
- No children may attend - you may have one other adult with you. Face coverings and social distancing is required.
Please know that our office area will be closed as we will be in trainings or working on important final arrangements. We will not be checking out keys until the week of August 3rd. Thank you for your understanding.
