October: Dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, is to pray the Rosary.
The celebration day dates back to 1571. At that time, the Catholic Leagues was at battle with the Turks who were trying to overturn Europe, killing millions of people and forcing Islamic conversion on survivors. Pope Pius V called on various religious communities throughout Europe to join him in praying the rosary, to defeat the Islamic threat. Heading into battle, every man in the Catholic League’s forces carried a rosary.
The Catholic Leagues' fleet was no match for the competition, vastly outnumbered. Miraculously, the Catholic League returned victorious after a daylong battle known as the Battle of Lepanto that took place off the coast of Greece. In thanksgiving for Mary’s intercession and protection, Pope Pius V declared the day, October 7, as a feast day for Our Lady of the Rosary.

In this weekend's Gospel, Jesus is questioned, again, by the Pharisees, but His message of love and unity through marriage and children overcomes their negativity and doubt.
Jesus explains that unity in marriage and all little children are a gift from God. In fact, these principles are discussed together since this type of love is the key to the Kingdom of Heaven. The passage is less about the regulations for ordering relationships, and more of a glimpse or vision of God's loving plan for his children. And this plan remains the 'good news' for everyone.
The love of a happy marriage is a gift from God. The ‘little children’ represent those who are among the most weak and vulnerable in society, without power or status. Both married couples and children spontaneously receive God. In prayer, we bring to mind children and people in marriage or family cares, and pray for them. Help us, Lord, to truly care for the earth, for marriage and for children in our society.
