Dear Parents / Carers,
Happy new year! What a start to the new term!
First of all, thank you so much for bearing with us while we have sorted out home learning and class learning at such short notice and thank you for all the positive and supportive emails. It has been a long and exhausting week but I think we should be back on track by Monday.
Our 'bubbles' are now full and any further applications for key worker places will go onto a waiting list. As the definition for who is a key worker has widened, we have many more children in school this time around and that means that as all class teachers are in school and working with a bubble, it may take them longer than previously to reply to messages or to respond to children at home but they will do what they can as soon as they can. We will not be scheduling any 'live lessons' first because we don't have the technology to do this for all classes and second because not all of our pupils have access to the technology at home to view them which would put them at a disadvantage.
If you are wanting extra work to keep your child occupied for longer, please encourage them to write using a pencil and paper rather than a keyboard. Lack of writing stamina was one area that we found common in many children following the previous lockdown. You could use a resource such as Pobble 365 which sets a daily writing stimulus to encourage your child to write. Also, the evidence for daily reading is overwhelming in supporting children so please try to find time for reading to/ with your child.
I understand how hard it is to be a parent working from home with children who need to be occupied so please do whatever you can around your working day. The school is fully staffed so please do call if you need to. Teachers will be happy to call back after school to support you where they can and a letter will come out early next week giving lots of links to online learning that can be used to keep your children occupied on top of the several hours a day work that is already being sent.
Until we see everyone back in school again, please stay safe and well.

NYCC ENERGY AND SUSTAINABILITY SERVICE: Power down Pete Presents “Evil Dr Freeze and the Zombie Penguins”
This brand new website has been designed to deliver the important messages we need to stay warm and well this winter whilst supporting families in danger of fuel poverty.
In partnership with Community first Yorkshire, pupils can still access a range of activities from home or school which teach us all how we can stay warm and well this winter. Designed for all ages of children the “Cold Comic” is used as a concept to engage with the community on issues of fuel poverty and health.
