The Senior Statement
November 2018
Season of Thanks
As a team we would like to take a moment to thank the students and families of Team 2019 for all of the hard work and effort you have put in with your students over the course of the first 13 weeks of this semester. As we near the end of the first semester it is hard to believe that we are only one more semester away from graduation on June 8th, 2019.
I have included a lot of important information in this month's newsletter related to final exams, college and career guidance, graduation information, and other updates. As always if you have any questions or concerns please contact me at any time.

Final Exam Schedule
Although senior students will be taking final exams this year the final exam schedule will be different than in years past. ALL students will finish class on Thursday and Friday at 11am and will be dismissed from BHS at this time. Students driving, walking, or riding with a peer/guardian can leave directly at the 11am dismissal, and students riding a bus home will head to their bus at dismissal. Students will have the option of grabbing lunch in the main building cafe prior to leaving. FAFSA
Don’t forget the 2019-2020 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is available online at www.fafsa.gov . The FAFSA requires your 2017 tax return and April 15, 2019 is the deadline to file the FAFSA in order to be fully considered for all state and federal financial aid. Please note many colleges/universities have their own FAFSA filing deadline dates that are prior to April 15. Please check the financial aid websites of the school you are planning to attend to ensure their FAFSA deadline is met.
Scholarships
Now is a good time for seniors to be researching scholarships available from their top college choices. You will likely find college scholarships within their scholarships and financial aid sites. Pay attention to deadline dates and requirements, and plan well ahead for submitting scholarships on time.
For any scholarships available by a college or any non-college ones, please remember to apply and provide supplemental materials according to the directions they provide. Transcripts and letters of recommendation for scholarships are not sent through Naviance to scholarship organizations.
U.S. Naval Academy Visit to BHS- Tuesday, Nov. 20th
Are you interested in attending the United States Naval Academy? There will be an informational session at BHS in Room A1-101 on Tues., Nov. 20th during 3rd period. During this time, interested students will meet with Midshipman, Mick Rivera, and learn about the application process. Those interested should sign up in the Team 2019 Office before the end of the day November 16th.
Fastenal Visit- Tuesday, Nov. 20th
Fastenal will be here in the Senior Academy during all three lunches on Tues., Nov. 20th. They are advertising employment opportunities at their distribution center. If you want to gain warehouse/logistics experience, visit them during your lunch that day.
IUPUI Individualized Admission Counseling Day- Thursday, Dec. 6th
IUPUI Admissions Counselors will be here on Thursday, Dec. 6th. If you have been admitted to IUPUI, this is a good opportunity to meet with an admissions counselor and prepare questions you may have regarding next steps, majors, financial aid, scholarships, housing, the enrollment process, etc. If you have applied but are still awaiting a decision, this would be a good opportunity to check on your application status as well. Finally, if IUPUI is one of your top college choices and you would like to meet with an admissions counselor that day, I encourage you to apply online, request your transcript in Naviance, and have your test scores sent prior to that day. If interested in the IUPUI Individualized Admission Counseling Day, please sign up on the sign-up sheet that is posted outside Mrs. Martin’s by the end of the day Wed., November 28th. The meetings will last up to 10 minutes.
Bill Estes Visit- Thursday, Nov. 29th
Bill Estes is offering part time employment and career possibilities to students. They are specifically interested in talking with seniors that are exploring the automotive arena. They have many options and potential career paths for students to learn about. If you are interested in hearing about their career opportunities, please sign up in Naviance by the end of the day November 27th. The visit will take place during 7th period on Thurs., Nov. 29th in Room SA 116.
Next Generation Teacher Scholarship
If you are interested in pursuing a career in teaching, I recommend you looking into the Next Generation Teacher Scholarship. Reminders from Mrs. Matherly
Requesting Homework During an Absence
The quickest, most convenient way to get homework during an absence would be to email teachers directly through PowerSchool. They are able to email most assignments directly to their students. Also, please check Schoology to see what the teachers have posted. If PowerSchool log-in information is needed, please let Mrs. Matherly know.
Update Contact Information
Just a reminder to keep Mrs. Matherly aware throughout the school year as phone numbers, addresses or email addresses change.
