Fall Newsletter 2015

We need you!

It is hard to believe that we have already completed an entire grading period. Alot has been accomplished by our teachers and students as well as by our PTO. I would like to commend our PTO officers for starting off the year with a bang. We have increased our PTO membership and have enjoyed working with them to sponsor some great activities for our families. Here are some of the events that we have already enjoyed: Bulldog Back to School Bash, Movie Night, Grandparent's Lunch and Campus Clean Up Day. Thanks to all who contributed to the success of these activities and we look forward to many more great activities to come. If you haven't already done so, please join our PTO and let's work together to make Walnut Grove School the best that it can be!

Dynamic DAWGS

This school year, we are implementing a school wide incentive plan to encourage our students in adopting the following behavior habits. Please help us help your child act like a Dynamic DAWG by discussing them at home.

Attendance and Punctuality

I just can't emphasize enough the importance of teaching our children lifelong habits that will help them to succeed in the future. Some of those habits include good attendance and punctuality. Our school day begins promptly every day at 7:45 a.m. Great things begin happening early! At this time, many of our classrooms provide intervention to students who may need some extra assistance. It is important for students to be in class and in their seats ready to roll at 7:45 and not a minute after. Parents, please help us make this happen. Not only is it a form of teaching respect but this is a habit that will follow them into future endeavors. (On this note, if students plan to eat breakfast at school, they should be in the line no later than 7:30.)

Good attendance goes hand in hand with punctuality. Gaps in learning are a product of missing class. More and more research is being produced every day that indicates that success in reading on grade level, benchmarking on standardized testing, graduating from high school and maintaining a job may all be linked to good school attendance. If we as parents don't have our students in class every day, we are contributing to the possibility of them falling behind their peers academically. That can easily be prevented by communicating to our children the importance of their education and by planning appointments, vacations and other activities around the school day whenever possible.

Let's work together to prepare a profitable path for our children by teaching them good, old-fashioned disciplined behaviors such as respect and perseverance through punctuality and attendance in school.
