Hallinan Elementary
Hawk Squawk Newsletter 9/22/22
Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
It's been a great start to the school year and I hope your child shares something about their day with you everyday. If you need some conversation starters, consider asking your child about STEM. Mrs. Doran has the opportunity to work with every Hallinan student in the iLab. She creates a monthly newsletter to keep us all informed, STEM and Blossom, and I am delighted to share it with you.
If you missed the Hawk Squawk last week, I shared our Kindergarten and Pre-K team photos and student portraits. You can find them HERE. This week, I am happy to introduce our First Grade team, please see them below.
Please make sure to complete the following action items:
- Complete Required Tech Consent DUE 9/30 - for K-5th grade only.
- Complete the annual Volunteer Application for LOSD if you want to volunteer at Hallinan this year (this includes the Jog-a-Thon) - we would love to have you all join us!
Happy first day of Fall!
Melissa Griffiths

New Application for School Volunteers
For the safety of children, volunteers are required to have an approved background check when volunteering in schools.
To help streamline compliance with state and school board policies, which require that all volunteers have background checks and knowledge of other board policies -- as well as state-mandated proof of vaccination (or a qualified exemption) -- we are introducing a new all-in-one volunteer application and approval process through ou Raptor Visitor Management System. Submitting an online application initiates the background check process. Once submitted, applicants will receive an email upon approval of your background check and you will be given access through the onsite Raptor System at all schools. Please allow up to three weeks to process your approval.
Volunteers need to submit only one application for volunteering in all LOSD schools. Applications need to be submitted annually to capture changes in background checks, policies, and/or vaccination requirements. Thank you for applying promptly, and for your service to our students and schools. We are grateful for our volunteers.

Slices of Gratitude
We want to continue to thank our amazing Jog-A-Thon sponsors. So far, all sponsors listed have been Hallinan parents! First up were realtors Tessa Gold and Pam Waldman. Then we had realtor Barbara Carbone and periodontist Michael Setter.
Today we are thanking two of our third-tier T-shirt donors. It appears Hallinan is home to several dentist power couples as today we are thanking Dr. Kari Borgen who owns Orthodontic Specialists of Lake Oswego and her husband Dr. Ryan Hughes who owns Lakeside Pediatric Dentistry. If you see them around, please thank them for serving our community in so many ways!

District Information
State Assessment Score Reports
LOSD now delivers students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s 2021-22 assessment reports are now available on your ParentVUE Documents page. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
If you have forgotten your ParentVUE password, go to the login page, click "I am a Parent," then click "Forgot Password." If you do not have a ParentVUE account, go to the ParentVUE Account Access page and click "Request Account Activation" to start the process. If you are unsure whether you have a ParentVUE account or need assistance, please contact Lee or Linda at 503 534 2353.
