- If you haven't already done so, please be sure to send you child's permission slip and payment for Camp Wolverine by Tuesday, Dec. 20.
- Make sure your child comes hungry for breakfast on Thursday, Dec. 22. Students are also allowed to wear PJs on the 22nd and bring a small stuffed animal.
Language Arts
We will be reading to our first grade buddies on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Your child should have a Christmas or winter book, please have him/her practice it over the weekend. I'd like the kids focusing on fluency and expression.
- Reading: We continued working on drawing conclusions and characters and using details and examples from the text for support.
- Writing: Students started brainstorming ideas for a persuasive essay.
- Grammar: We continued working on conjunctions and pronouns.
Math
This week students continued to work on multiplication of two 2-digit numbers with a concentration on solving "real world" problems requiring multiple steps and multiple operations. The children are finding that careful reading, and rereading, along with accurate computation are critical to solving these challenging problems. Students also continued to practice their multiplication facts.
Science and Social Studies
Social Studies- We started learning about the Northeast region of the United States. Students learned which states make up this region, some sites to be found, and completed a geography challenge with a partner.
Science- We finished learning about plant reproduction. Students dissected flowers and drew diagrams of what they found. They also took an open book check up on what they learned.
