Indianhoops Teacher Spotlight

This month's teacher spotlight is Mrs. Mary Adams. Mrs. Adams teaches Algebra 1 here at the high school.

Mrs. Adams has been teaching for 11 years. She has been teaching at Jackson for the past 10 years. Her husbands name is Brad and she has two sons. Nash who is 6 and Thad who is 4. Mrs. Adams went to High School at Leopold and Graduated in 2005. She then attended SEMO for her Education Degree and graduated in 2009. She received her masters in Educational Leadership in 2015 from Arkansas State University.

Question and Answer with Mrs. Adams.

What led to you to deciding you wanted to become a teacher?

My aunt taught 1st grade for 30 years. I always loved helping her with summer school. When I got older I loved math so it all just worked out!

Favorite teaching moment.

I love when students have fun with my silly math songs or crazy activities. I also love when a kid says they have always hated math or haven't done well but then tell me that what I'm doing "isn't that bad" or that they finally get it! I love me some "a-ha" moments!!! :)

Most Famous Student you have every taught.

The most famous player I have ever taught was Otto Porter Jr. I had Otto (aka Bubba) when he was a junior in high school. He helped his high school basketball team win multiple state titles before accepting an offer to play college ball at Georgetown. He was drafted into the NBA by the Washington Wizards and now plays for the Chicago Bulls.

Favorite thing about teaching at Jackson.

I love love love who I work with and who I work for. My coworkers are my friends and at times more like family. They are also good at what they do..which pushes me to be better! They are creative and keep me always looking for new ways to help kids connect with what I teach. My bosses care about me and my family and are so supportive. I feel that their expectations keep me accountable for what my students are learning and getting out of my class.
