Exciting News from Mrs. Caplinger!
We have exciting news to share with you!
Barksdale is going to get a whole new look for the 2018-2019 school year! Recently the Plano ISD School Board approved the budget for refurbishment. Some of the things that you will see are full renovation of the kitchen, new flooring throughout the building, upgraded teachers’ lounge and workroom, new metal student lockers, all new cabinetry, new furniture throughout the building, fresh paint, new playgrounds, upgrades to the HVAC units, chillers, boilers, electrical, plumbing, and more. There will also be two additional classrooms added due to our projected enrollment. Construction on the two new classrooms will begin shortly. Teachers are busy cleaning out their classrooms after school and on the weekends, as everything in the entire school has to be removed starting June 1. We could not be more excited to see the new look, but we do know that we will have to make adjustments along the way. We will continue to update you throughout this process. Please know that none of this will impact your child’s learning this school year. They will begin working on everything over the summer, with the exception of the two new classrooms.

Homework & Agenda
Here is an idea of what homework assignments to expect in each class:
Reading - A Google Classroom assignment will be posted weekly. In addition to this, students will have Reading homework only if they did not finish the morning work assigned or studying for a test. Below are links to each homeroom teacher's agenda. Please use the link to see your child's reading assignments for the week.
Math - Students usually organize all their homework on Monday, and there is an assignment that needs to be completed each night. Students may work ahead if they please. Click here to see the Math agenda.
Spelling - We usually give Spelling Tests every other week.
Vocabulary - There is usually a vocabulary test every other week. We use a program called "Wordly Wise," so you may see that written in your child's agenda. A Quizlet is typically posted on the Google Classroom to help students study.
Science - Students typically do not have science homework, though they are expected to study their notebooks for occasional quizzes and tests. These test dates will be updated on the newsletter and teachers will have students write down in their agenda if they need to study.
