Burton VAPA Newsletter
Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA)
March is the month to celebrate arts education! Let's remember how important the arts are for our students and the value in creativity and expression! This month we acknowledge the arts as something that is imperative for not only strengthening the minds of our students but to provide a creative outlet to support their emotional well-being. We value the arts here at Burton!

Due to high demand, our VAPA Family Fun Nights are BACK! Join in for a mixture of theatre, dance, music, and art during this family event which will be held every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Check out the flyer below for more details and to see when our first VAPA night is!
Some of our video production students had the privilege to create a memorial video remembering and honoring Captain Ray Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones, our heroes who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty during the Porterville Library fire. Thank you to the Porterville Fire Department for the honor of allowing our Summit Collegiate High School students: Kashmir Barker, Noah Daniel and Liam Sherrill, led by Mr. Garrett Thomas and Mr. Roberto Escudero to produce this commemorative video for our community.

We are recognizing students from different art departments every month! Great things are happening in our classrooms this year, and our VAPA teachers have some amazing students to celebrate in our "Artist Spotlight" section. Take a look at this month's artist spotlights from video production!
If you missed Burton Middle School Theatre Department's very first virtual theatre performance, grab some snacks, get comfy, and be ready for some laughter while watching this student written comedic news broadcast performance!
"Weekday Update" BMS Theatre Performance
BMS video production students for the 2019-2020 school year participated in a Student Voices Campaign contest for California Alliance for Arts Education with the purpose of advocating for the arts and sharing what the arts means to them! We are so proud of these students who received 3rd place in the contest out of over 200 entries across California! Take a look!
