Library Information
Local business owner and newly made author, Tim Vasquez, visited the Campo Verde Library and read his book to our Toybox students. He is the owner of Someburros and his book The Taco Stand, explains his family’s history of starting their business. Mr. Vasquez’s aunt, Ms. Linda Kay Ost, is the illustrator of the book and we were lucky enough to have her in attendance as well. She made a trip all the way from Washington to be here! The kids benefited from hearing from Mr. Vasquez and Ms. Ost how they wrote and illustrated the book. After his reading, the kids enjoyed working on coloring pages from the book and the eating mini tacos from the restaurant. Thank you Mr. Tim Vasquez for being a part of the Campo community!
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and therefore, the library has set up a display with information, local resources, books, and more. The resources can all be found on the website bloom365.org. This is a local non-profit that promotes healthy and safe relationships for all teens.

Student Council
Campo Verde’s Student Council has been really busy these past few weeks! From
January 22nd-26th, the Senior class members went up to Prescott for the annual AASC State
Conference. While there, the Council received the highest possible award, “Council of
Distinction”, and spent the weekend participating in leadership classes, as well as listening to
various speakers. The Council also recently directed one of the school’s most beloved events of the year, Mr. Coyote, which occurred on January 25th. The country theme came with a lot of cowboy hats, Carrie Underwood songs, and laughs. Bailey White, a Senior, was crowned as Mr. Coyote 2019. The week immediately after, February 4-8th, was the MORP spirit week. The
themes were “Boots & Bandanas”, “Denim”, “America”, “Camouflage”, and “Western Wear”. The spirit week had the whole school getting in the Western spirit, for the 4th Pep Assembly of the year. The Council worked for months prior to put together decorations, videos, and gather talent for an amazing assembly that included a performance by America’s Got Talent 2014 Quarterfinalist Loop Rawlins, Campo’s adorable Toy Box kids, SRDC, and both cheer teams. The next day was the Western themed MORP dance, where Student Council threw an evening hoedown on the basketball courts. Students came dressed in their best western gear to dance the night away.
Coming up on the 2nd of March, our stuco is hosting a kickball tournament against our
fellow GPS student councils. Campo Verde’s Student Council won the event last year, and is
excited to host this time around, with hopes of keeping the trophy at home. Later in March we
have Powderpuff coming up on Friday the 22nd at 7pm. Powderpuff is where the Senior girls
take on the Junior girls in a flag football game, and the men are the cheerleaders. It’s only 5
dollars at the gate of the Campo Verde Stadium. Lastly, prom is almost 2 months away already! It will be hosted at the Arizona Science Center in downtown Phoenix on Saturday, April 13th for the Juniors and Seniors only! The theme is “A Night in the Big City”, and more information will be given out soon!

Key Club
Key Club is continuing to work on Project Be-YOU-tiful! Every Friday, students stay after school to paint designs on the bathroom walls in order to make the campus a more beautiful place. The 500 and 200 buildings have already been completed and Key Club is currently working on the Cafeteria bathrooms. Along with painting the bathrooms, Key Club has placed bins full of personal hygiene items in the girls’ bathrooms. These products range from hand sanitizer to dental picks to mints. The purpose of these products is to provide common hygiene items that may be needed to all the girls of Campo Verde.

WINTER DRUMLINE EXCELLENCE
The highly competitive winter percussion season has begun, and the Coyote Pride Winter Drumline is ready for the challenge. To prepare for a successful season, the members of the drumline endure vigorous physical and metal training to learn and execute each move simultaneously while playing an instrument with confidence. Simply put, the members of the drumline are dedicated, disciplined, and gifted musicians who understand the art of musical excellence.
As a result, last Saturday, the Winter Drumline delivered their first evaluation performance with technical accuracy, great sound quality, and articulation under the direction of the Percussion Caption Head, Justin Galvez. The Winter Drumline looks forward to a successful season.

GPS Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month
Students and faculty in Gilbert Schools will join others across the nation during the month of February to celebrate national Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month®. This year’s tagline is Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow! CTE Month provides CTE programs across the country an opportunity to demonstrate how CTE makes students college and career ready and prepares them for high-wage, high-demand career fields. By partnering with the business community, CTE programs are investing in students and providing them with the latest technology and skills that will prepare them to become successful employees and future leaders.
Career and technical education engages students in the classroom and helps them to understand and apply academics, which is essential to graduating students who are effective in the workplace and keeping the U.S. economically competitive.
CTE offers a wide range of careers in entrepreneurship, automotive, architecture, carpentry, medical, food and fiber production, agribusiness, culinary arts, management and life skills, marketing, technology, and engineering.
CTE students are significantly more likely than their non-CTE counterparts to report that they developed work-related, problem solving, project completion, research, math, college application, communication, time management, and critical thinking skills during high school.
Rigorous academics, 21st century skills and CTE strategies are important ways to bridge the gap between academic, employability & technical skills.
