The Buzz at Westbrook School
April 1, 2021
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
We hope your children enjoyed Spring Break! It was wonderful to see them back in person or online this week!
Friday, April 2nd is nationally known as “World Autism Awareness Day. This week, we celebrated Disability Awareness Week across the district. Each day this week, our students learned about a different disability. Our students learned about learning disabilities, orthopedic impairments, visual impairments, and autism. It was great to see so many students and staff wearing blue or our “In District 57, We All Fit Together” t-shirts. It is our hope that by celebrating this week and by teaching students about different disabilities, it will help students to make connections with others who have similar and dissimilar experiences and to develop respect and appreciation for the things that make us all unique.
In addition, we are excited to welcome our students back to full in-person instruction in April, as well as offer a fully remote learning option for families who chose this learning model. See below for our spring learning model timeline.

First Day of Full-Time, In-Person/Remote Learning Models
During the week of April 5th, students will have school on Monday, April 5th and Wednesday, April 7th. April 6th was previously designated as an Institute Day. Two additional days (April 8th and April 9th) were added as Institute Days to allow for planning and preparation for our spring learning models to start on April 12th. We will follow the typical schedule for our remote learners and in-person learners on April 5th and April 7th. Due to bussing, we are unable to make changes to our schedules for this week.
Spring Learning Models
Teacher assignments for the last part of the school year will be sent via email in the afternoon on Monday, April 5th. We have made every effort to minimize movement and to prevent students from having a new teacher. We tried to place students with their current teacher or their teacher from earlier in the year if they switched teachers. If students were unable to stay with their current teacher or return to a previous teacher, we tried our best to place classmates together with a new teacher. Teachers will connect with students/families who will be new to their classes next week!
We will be moving back to our normal school hours beginning on April 12th.
AM session: 9:20-11:50am
PM session: 1:20-3:50pm
Mr. Anderson and I will be sharing a video next week that will have more information regarding arrival/dismissal, lunch, recess, and more!
Wishing you and your family well,
Kristin Vonder Haar
