Learner Profile Trait for the Month of March:
Math Workshop
Talking points in math:
1. How do you add fractions with different denominators?
2. How do you convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals?
Reading & Language Workshop
Readers are currently learning about how discoveries can impact humanity. In language workshop, we have read about Duke Ellington, Cool Herc, and Tito Puente. These musicians have been a huge influence in the world of music as well as in their communities. Literature Discussion Groups (LDGs) are also learning about people who’s discoveries have impacted the world we live in. We are looking forward to another week of learning in this unit. We have one more special that we will be reading about in Language Workshop next week before we move into Unit 6.
Writing Workshop
Writers have been working very hard on their informational books. Students are “experts” on a subject that they already know a lot about. They are learning about the structure of a non fiction book and are using this knowledge to create their own book in Book Creator. Students are learning to add features, such as tables, graphs, photos, captions, table of contents, and glossaries.
Talking points in ELA:
Which genre of music or person have you enjoyed learning about in Language Workshop? (Duke Ellington, Cool Herc, Tito Puente)?
What is your informational text about? What chapters are you working on ?
Social Studies
We are working on our History of Wisconsin biographies. Each student was given one unique individual who has impacted our society in a positive way. We are still working on collecting some important information for our “Pizza Box Biographies,” a way for students to display everything that they have learned about their person. We are so excited to show these off at the Showcase of Excellence!
Questions to ask about SS: How has your person impacted society? What have you learned about your person?
