Week of February 13-17, 2023
Monday: Regular Schedule; North District FFA Officer Visits Mrs. Heald's Agriscience classes; HUGE Sub-Regional basketball game for SS VG vs Moody @ 6:00. We need a huge crowd to cheer our girls to victory!
Tuesday: Valentines Day - Regular Schedule; KNOWN meets before school at 7:15 in the library; Make-up Formal Athletic Pictures; Chess Club meets in library at 3:00; JVB Soccer vs. Ft. Payne 5:00/6:30 (Campus Field); HUGE Sub-Regional basketball game for SS VB vs Springville @ 6:00. We need a huge crowd to cheer our boys to victory!
Wednesday: Odd Block Schedule; Chess Club in morning at 7:00 a.m. in Learning Commons; Blood Drive (see below for information or see Mrs. Fry for questions).
Thursday: Even Block Schedule; FCA meets before school at 7:15 in the library; JVG/JVB vs. Lincoln Soccer Game; Mandatory Parent Meeting for anyone trying out for cheerleader 6:00 in library; MPA Preview Concert 6:00 Auditorium.
Friday: Regular Schedule; National Random Acts of Kindness Day (check out your Monday Mission); Good Luck to our wrestlers competing at state!; Opening Day for SS Baseball - V/JV SS BBall vs Jacksonville; Rainbow City Boys Invitation Soccer Tournament (RBC Fields); JVG/VG Soccer vs. Albertville 4:30/6:30
*Students attending the state wrestling contest will be excused, but must sign-up in the main office that they plan to attend. State Wrestling Tournament is held at that Von Braun Center in Huntsville.
*Special Note About Friday: If either or both of our basketball teams win their sub-regional games played Monday and Tuesday, they will compete on Friday at JSU Pete Mathew Coliesum at the Regional Tournament! Should we be a part of the tournament, more information will be shared so that our community and students so they can attend the game(s) and support our teams!

Life South Blood Drive At Southside High School
Blood Drive on Wednesday, February 15! If you have questions or want to sign-up, please see Mrs. Fry!
Students who are at least 16 can donate blood (with parental consent.) Students who are 17 or older can donate blood without parental consent. Life South will have their Blood Drive Donation bus parked out front of the school on this day.

We need your help with improving our school attendance! We need you at school everyday, on time, and please do not check out unless it is absolutely necessary! Everyday Counts!
If you are absent, please turn excuses into Mrs. Rich in the front office.
Did you know that the Alabama State Department of Education defines chronic absenteeism as any student that misses 18 days of school, regardless of whether the absence was coded unexcused or excused.
Our school attendance is an important part of our school report card, but more importantly, WE WANT YOU HERE AT SCHOOL WITH US!

SGA Flower Shop on Valentines Day!
The SGA will host a pop-up flower shop during break times on Valentine's Day! All of proceeds will be donated to Children's Hospital in Charlie Holcomb's name (Coach Holcomb's daughter).
Flowers will be $5 per bundle! Make plans to buy your flowers from the SGA on Valentine's Day!
Varsity Girls will host Moody at 6:00 on Monday, February 13! WE NEED YOU THERE! It's time for the Jungle to show up and be loud!!
Southside Boys Area Champs!
Varsity Boys will host Springville at 6:00 on Tuesday, February 14! WE NEED YOU THERE! It's time for the Jungle to show up and be loud!!
Southside Wrestling Headed to State!
Southside qualified 4 wrestlers that will compete this Friday and Saturday in the AHSAA State Tournament! We are so proud of you!

Southside Mens Varsity Soccer
Good tournament result for the Panthers. Game 1, defeated Boaz 3-1, Game 2 fell to Tanner 2-0, Game 3 defeated Westbrook 5-0. Camren Thompson, Abdullah Allabassi, Simon Baltensweiler, Joel Herrera, and Coben Guest all scored goals this weekend while Brandon Ayala, Grant Vice, Camren Thompson, Parker Cunningham, Will Argo and Ouzeiph Toumiba all had assists. Hayes Cosby had 14 saves in the tournament. The Panthers finished 3rd in their 8 team bracket. Shoutout to the defense for only giving up 3 goals during the entire tournament: Ariq Chandra, Bram van Gils, Hayden Tucker, Jackson Greene, Drew Simmons, Hayes Cosby and Grant Vice.
Southside Women's Soccer
The Golden Goal Tournament ended with a win over Hazel Green that went to PKs!
Kinsey Carter, Mallory Tucker, Kaylee Henderson, and Makayla Walker scored on each of their PKs
Goal Keeper Anna Kate Welch achieved a combined 8 saves during regulation and PKs
A HUGE Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Soccer Team for finishing 3rd Place, having competed in a solid purple bracket that crossed with Collinsville, Moody, Scottsboro, and Westbrook.
Also, congratulations to Kimberly Carter for receiving the honor of Varsity Girls All-Tournament Team!
Southside Quiz Bowl
Listen up!!!! Southside Varsity Quiz Bowl team defeats Gadsden City High School and qualifies for the STATE TOURNAMENT!!! We are so very proud of this group of students and their hard work! All 3 teams (RMS, Southside JV and Southside Varsity) are heading to STATE!!! Let’s hear it for our teams!!!! #WeAreSouthside #ClawsOut

Devan Lowe Honor Roll
Attention Seniors!!!!
Seniors will be eligible to register to win a car each nine-week grade period that they make the A-B Honor Roll. Because parental consent is required, please have your parent or legal guardian come by with a copy of your report card and the provided registration form at Devan Lowe Inc. on Hwy 77 in Rainbow City.
Our business hours are Monday thru Friday from 8am until 6pm and Saturday from
8am until 5pm. A random drawing of eligible entries will take place before school ends in May, so you can earn up to 3 chances to win the vehicle by making the A-B Honor Roll for each of the first three nine-week grade periods.
Following are the registration deadlines (unfortunately, late entries cannot be accepted):
• 1st nine weeks report card –
Registration deadline - November 12th
• 2nd nine weeks report card –
registration deadline - February 4th
• 3rd nine weeks report card –
registration deadline - April 8th
